Jackie and Carole are just two of the many volunteers hard at work each week to bring a little extra comfort to those in care. "It started out as us coming together to learn a new skill, but during lockdown last year we started to make things to be donated and just haven't stopped!" Carole said.

20.01.2022 7NEWS Gold Coast recently checked out our new hybrid operating theatre at GCUH and met some of the first patients who had their procedures done in the theatre. ...This theatre will improve care because clinicians can conduct imaging of patients during an operation, without having to move them. This will reduce risk to the patient and treatment time, reduce repeat procedures because diagnosis, treatment and confirmation of results happen concurrently. Javier, ...like all of our AHPs, is an expert in monitoring anaesthesia and vitals during surgery and has a knack for making patients feel safe and calm. I've always had an interest in anaesthetic so it was a no brainer to pursue a career in it," he said. "It's satisfying being the last person they see before they go to sleep and the first person when they wake up. They can feel pretty vulnerable so I'm always trying to be a friendly face to reassure them." Thank you, Javier! #ShoutoutSaturday
