20.01.2022 Sunshine Coast Smile Centre COVID-19 Update Level 3 Restrictions For Dentists... What does that mean for our valued patients? With the impact of COVID-19 continuing to significantly disrupt life Australian dentists are now entering the next level of restrictions. The Australian Health Protection Principal Committee (AHPPC) has issued the following advice: AHPPC recommends that all dental practices implement level 3 restrictions as outlined in ADA’s guidance. That is, dentists should only perform dental treatments that do not generate aerosols, or where treatment generating aerosols is limited. All routine examinations and treatments should be deferred." What treatments can be performed under level 3 restrictions? Dental emergency - a situation that requires immediate treatment including: Facial swelling Facial trauma Both facial swelling and trauma have the potential to affect your airway. Immediate treatment should be sought for these conditions. Urgent dental treatment - for conditions that cause significant pain, infection or directly affect your health and wellbeing. This can include: Severe dental pain, usually affecting sleep An abscess or infection within the mouth Tooth fracture where the nerve becomes exposed Dental trauma from accidents or sports causing teeth to be knocked out or moved from their original place in the mouth Medically necessary dental treatment prior to medical or surgical procedures that cannot be delayed Dental conditions that if left untreated may become a dental emergency in 4-6 months. Please be assured Sunshine Coast Smile Centre remains committed to ensuring the health and well-being of our patients and local community and we have implemented further infection control measures to keep you and us safe. We are presently operating at a reduced capacity and will continue to follow all recommendations set by the Australian Government and the Dental Board of Australia. Although the treatments we can provide to you have been restricted for the time being, please know we are here to continue helping you care for your oral health. If you have a dental issue not listed above but are experiencing pain or it is affecting your wellbeing, please contact the practice and we will provide help where possible. We aim to keep our patients informed with regular communication, updates can be found on our Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/scsmilecentre/ Stay safe and well and look forward to treating you again soon. 19.01.2022 Dear Valued Patients, We are writing to you to keep you up to speed with the rapidly changing environment that we are now working in as a result of Covid-19. The Australian Dental Association released the following information to all dentists yesterday:... "It appears the government will continue to consider dental services as essential as long as they are provided safely. The ADA’s advice is that dental practices should immediately restrict dental treatment to non-aerosol generating procedures and consider the type of patients that receive treatment wherever possible". What does this mean for you? Jon is currently trying to finish off all urgent cases. From Monday 30th March we will be running our practice with a skeleton staff. We are in the process of putting a plan together of how we can deal with any dental emergencies. We will be restricted by ever changing guidelines from the ADA. In this unique Covid-19 world, we have to fulfill our duty of care to the wider community while still looking after our patients. When we are not at the practice, we will still be able to do consultations over the phone. As usual Jon’s mobile number will be available on our answer phone as it is every weekend. If you have any individual concerns, please don’t hesitate to give us a call or send us an email. We are still here to support you. Stay safe and well and look forward to treating you again soon. Kind Regards, Jon and all the team at Sunshine Coast Smile Centre
