25.01.2022 The Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists are here this weekend for their Foundations of Surgery Workshop. Over the course of the two days they will explore diathermy and electrosurgery, laparoscopic skills, anal sphincter repair, and hysteroscopic exercises in the SCSSC lab.

24.01.2022 Applied Medical Resources are at SCSSC hosting their Transanal Minimally Invasive Surgery (TAMIS) course today. 'TAMIS gives the colorectal surgeon the ability to expand their skills to include the use of local excision from the distal rectum to the mid and proximal rectum. TAMIS enables the resection of lesions in the rectum using advanced access devices and laparoscopic instrumentation.'

20.01.2022 The 4th Sydney Endoscopic Ear Surgery Course is taking place at SCSSC this weekend. There will be a full programme of dissection, lectures, and live surgery from Verona (Italy) focusing on the new technique of endoscopic access to the ear. Invited International Faculty include Professor Daniele Marchioni (Italy - Live surgery), Assoc Prof Alejandro Rivas (Tenessee, USA), and Assoc Prof Brandon Isaacson (Texas, USA).

Judging of the acromioplasty competition is always the highlight of the day.....this year's entries were met with the usual laughter from our judges. Anthony Romeo from Midwest Orthopaedics at Rush University Medical Centre Chicago, Illinois US and Matthew Provencher from the Steadman Clinic, Vail, Colorado US, provide their insights and antipodean perspective into advanced shoulder surgery, plus they are joined by an Australian and New Zealand faculty.... The meeting format consists of lectures, surgical demonstrations, webinar and interactive discussions and debates. 10.01.2022 Over the next three days we welcome the Department of Hand Surgery and Peripheral Nerve Surgery from Royal North Shore Hospital. In collaboration with the Australian Hand Surgery Society, they are hosting their Brachial Plexus Dissection Course, and Hand and Forearm Flaps Course in the Clinical Skills Centre. This course runs every 2 years and attracts participants from across Australia.

08.01.2022 What's on at SCSSC: The Continuing Education in Dentistry team from The University of Sydney are here from August 17-22 hosting their Posterior Periapical Surgery course for dental specialists. Comprising of lectures and cadaveric clinical microsurgical lab sessions, the course is led by Prof Thomas von Arx from the Department of Oral Surgery and Stomatology at the School of Dental Medicine, University of Bern, Switzerland. Prof von Arx has performed over 2000 apical surgery ...procedures during his career, and possesses an unparalleled level of clinical experience in this area. He is one of the most sought after presenters in the field of endodontic surgery. Professor von Arx will be supported by Dr Bree Belford and Dr William Ha. Dr Belford will discuss the role of IV sedation in endodontic surgery and Dr Ha will present his extensive research into MTA and other root end filling materials.

Comprising of a number of presentations and cadavers skills workshops, the Symposium explored optimal hiatal hernia surgical management techniques (laparoscopy) and the use of mesh technology in abdominal wall reconstruction. Thank you to representatives from W. L Gore, J&J, and Olympus for their involvement.

Led by Professor Tron Tran (Director of Orthopaedic Services at Monash Health, Victoria) the course will explore the anatomy and implant options for the shoulder, humerus, elbow, forearm and wrist.

01.01.2022 The Surgical Skills and Practical Professionalism unit of study for the Masters of Surgery (University of Sydney) was held at SCSSC over three days last week. The course covered a range of basic surgical skills including: Instrument handling and knot tying, suturing, diathermy, tissue dissection, bowel anastamosis, and laparoscopic skills. The Pam McLean Centre also ran patient-surgeon communication workshops for the 17 students. Thank you to all those involved.
