14.01.2022 Sculptors to Schools Outreach Education Program Emerging from the unforeseen events and restrictions with COVID-19 this year, we are offering for the first time the opportunity for schools and students to have Artists who have exhibited in Sculpture by the Sea and educators to come into their classrooms to conduct informative, stimulating and multi-sensory sculpture making workshops with the aim to offer 50 workshops across greater NSW. The program kicked off this week, with ...artist Katie Stewart making pinch pots in the playground with year 3 students, learning about positive & negative space, perspective, abstract and figurative art, how to incorporate sound, texture and movement into a sculpture, and how to price your artwork based on charging for time spent making, material costs, exhibition costs & profit margin! Some excellent sculptures were made by the kids, with one sculpture going for $200,000,000.00! Children enjoyed collaborations and multiples, moving parts, happy accidents and an encouraging, articulate group crit! 11.01.2022 Sculpture by the Sea, Bondi postponed until 2021. Sculpture by the Sea, Bondi has officially been postponed until 2021 due to Covid-19 restrictions. Despite hopes of staging the exhibition later this spring, the exhibition was not granted an exemption by NSW Health, hopefully open for visitors early next year. Sculpture by the Sea Founding Director, David Handley AM said, Like for so many people, it has been a very challenging year for the artists who planned to exhibit on t...he Bondi coastal walk and for our organisation. With the announcement some months ago that NSW would welcome back major events this spring we hoped it would also be possible to stage the exhibition. While looking ahead to see what might be possible early next year, we are delighted to be installing a major sculpture on the end of the south Bondi headland from mid-November as a beacon of hope for Sydney, Australia and the world. 07.01.2022 Sydney Sculpture Conference 2020: In Open Air | Program Highlight Maliwawa Figures in Western Arnhem Land, Northern Territory, that consist of red to mulberry naturalistic human and animal forms shaded with stroked lines, provide new evidence suggesting these figures most likely date to between 6,000 to 9,400 years of age. Professor Paul Taçon, Chair in Rock Art Research Griffith University, Queensland, will be discussing his groundbreaking research at the Sydney Sculpture C...onference on this newly discovered Maliwawa style of rock art that recently made headlines. Appearing in recent media, Professor Taçon said "this Maliwawa style of rock art filled the "missing link" between the already well-known 12,000-year-old early-style "Dynamic Figures" and 4,000-year-old x-ray style figures" that "has implications for rock art research everywhere in which a style or manner of depiction is suggested to have been made over hundreds of years or millennia."
