25.01.2022 John Forno - Totem/The Fragile Artist Statement: The fragility of paper, the fragility of nature.There's strength and resilience in the art of origami. A practice I remember fondly as a child growing up. As crease's and fold strengthen tightly woven wooden fibers there is always an undercurrent of the fragile as a result of the medium. This sculpture is in response to the piercing imagery that had infiltrated my social media feed. 10.01.2022 Soft landing by Corrie Wright and Tamara Kirby As environmental artists we are continually compelled to produce installations that stimulate conversations and question our place in the environmental agenda. Not focused on the distinction between nature and man made but in the viewers/ours relationship to both. In our work we deliberately introduce synthetic materials into nature to form a contrast, a prickle in the side, a point of departure from the coveted pristine environ...ment we all desire.and can never have. As we enter a new heightened era of global awareness we utilise our installations to further critique pending environmental issues. Our intervention in nature considers a ‘soft landing’ in our future human approach, to minimise and cushion the effects our impact has on our earthly habitat.
