20.01.2022 Please share! Change the National Building Code to make new housing accessible for all Australians. Right now, nearly three quarters of Australians with mobility impairment live in housing which does not meet their needs.... Many people with disability say poor housing design means they cannot visit friends and family. In some cases, housing quality is so low that people are unable to leave the house at all. We need your help to tell State and Federal Building Ministers that they must make accessibility standards mandatory for all new residential homes. Please, sign and share this petition to show you support for people with disabilities, seniors, and those with mobility impairment. Sign the Building Better Homes petition now! https://lnkd.in/gmzvX3J

18.01.2022 With November nearing its end, we reflect on the year and (myriad of effects) that COVID has had on the disability community. With 73% of individuals lacking access to essential items, and 51% feeling that their safety was compromised; it has remained our duty to focus energy on building homes that ensured these issues were addressed. With the completion of Good Housing's Oak Tree site in Mount Colah, and the build on Apple Tree and Lilly Pilly; their portfolio expands as they accommodate the growing demand for SDA within Sydney. A place for tenants to feel safe, and to call home.

04.01.2022 Living with a disability can be challenging, which is why Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA) is key to supporting people to live a happy and fulfilled life. Loneliness can also be an issue, as it was for Hume customer Jean Pierre better known as JP. But that’s all changed now. Read JP’s heartwarming story about his life and his cat on page 16 of Hume Housing's Annual Report:

02.01.2022 Did you know there were changes made recently to SDA rules? One of the rule changes says: A person can choose who they want their Supported Independent Living (SIL) provider to be. This decision cannot be made by the SDA Provider. This new rule stops SDA Housing Providers and SIL Providers from exclusively working together and means that you can choose who you want your SIL provider to be, no matter who the SDA Housing Provider is. If you share your SDA property with other pe...ople who have SDA funding in their NDIS plan, you can make this decision together. Specialist disability accommodation, or SDA, is a house, apartment or other type of home that has been designed for people who are NDIS participants that have an extreme functional impairment or need a lot of support.
