EDDIE IVERMEE... 1- I play the drums 2- And the Didgeridoo! 3- I kick a football left-footed 4- I attempted a Guiness World Record for the most amount of donuts in a car. And failed! (Please note: I didn't eat donuts in a car like my daughter thought when she read this!) 5- I hold the four and eight lap records for Standard Saloons at Simpson Speedway 6- I built a life sized Grave Digger Monster Truck cubbyhouse for my kids 7- I helped make banners for the Geelong Football club in the 1980s and 1990s - as a Member of the Geelong Cheer Squad 8- Our family had the famous Geelong FC cat out the front of our house in Cressy for many years 9- I bake and decorate my kid's birthday cakes each year (my best would have been a Cake Pizza, served it in a box and all) 10- I once flipped a car for my sister in law's high school project

21.01.2022 TRACK FACT THURSDAY MORTLAKE There’s something to be said about a track that has a eerie feeling before you even drive through the gates... ... When you first approach the tiny track in Darlington (more fondly known as Mortlake), you see the famous haunted pub to the right, drive up the driveway past the cemetery and you hit the gates to the very popular Mortlake Speedway! We have been lucky enough to race at this track since the early 1990’s. With the size of the track really making it more about the drivers ability than the horsepower of each car, Mortlake has most certainly provided some great tough racing action over the years. Some fond (and well not so fond) memories for some include Eddie Ivermee’s very hard roll over in turn three, which just so happened to be his third rollover for that season! Kali Hovey had her very first official SDAV race at the track! Her car featured the only automatic transmission at the time, and was not the easiest thing to start! Pit Marshall - Darryl Whitlow discovered this when he had to push the car all the way down the line up grid in a effort to get the car started and onto the track! There was one driver/team who had even braved the local haunted pub and booked accommodation there, yet didn’t last the night! Dean West was seen leaving in the early hours of the night and was quoted as saying I believe it now, never again. Speaking of early hours, there was also a couple of teams who decided to camp at the track one night, mind you the weather was somewhere between -5 and 0 degrees, so these drivers where really roughing it! This story is a little hazy... We do believe it was soo cold a certain veteran driver had even removed a Bedford hubcap, filled it with methanol and had his own personal fire heater in an attempt to get warm! I believe the teams this night didn’t make it home until the wee hours of the next morning!! There have been many laughs and memories had by drivers and crew at Mortlake Speedway and we cannot wait to get back there in the upcoming season!! In Stan's defense we now hear him at each and every drivers talk requesting the flag marshal be sure to wave the white and checkered flags vigorously, so that he can see them clearly.... 18.01.2022 BONUS POST. Today’s trivia questions based on this moment. A spare engine taken to the title because Kali told team leader and dad Russell Hovey she had a horrible feeling and that they should take the spare engine. Well that horrible feeling went across the board, the photos attached show the sequence of events, Phil jenkins blew his engine in heat 1, so as the club who helps no matter what is needed the engine started to get removed from Phil’s car to use the spare team Ho...vey had brought along. Heat 2 kali returns to the pits car in tow, with you guessed it a blown engine.. And just like that a second engine was removed from a car and the spare put into kali’s car. All hands where on deck, you can see former racers and crew members from a variety of teams working until the last second. Mind you there where a few extra moments due to almost every single driver stalling in the pit gate on the way out and then needing to thank there sponsors whilst receiving there starting position medallions, a state first we believe. As the cars rolled around the track the green flag was set to drop, but the 22 car appeared, at the VERY last second. A true testament to the club, drivers and crew members of all involved in the SDAV. See more

This driver was almost black flagged during one such race when they where starting pole and had almost caught up to those running from the rear before the race had even started.

07.01.2022 WARRANT WEDNESDAY Todays driver made the naughty list when photo evidence emerged during a lock down iso photo clean out, The driver was seen "cutting the pole line" not only in one photo but at least on three different occasions, in three different colored cars, We have it noted that at almost every drivers talk when the chief steward of the day speaks about the pole line you will see many drivers smile or nudge one particular driver to make sure they are paying attention.

07.01.2022 TRACK FACT THURSDAY HEARTLAND RACEWAY Our story of Heartland Raceway begins in a different state! Long before the opening of Moama Raceway, the SDAV Hotrods were a long time staple of the show ground track at Bendigo Speedway. Many races were run and some spectacular roller overs were captured at the track. The closure of Bendigo Speedway meant the birth of the now mighty Heartland Raceway!... Heartland Raceway, located in Moama - New South Wales, officially opened in 2005, and in 2008 the SDAV Hotrods made their debut at the 500 meter long track. Each season you will see Heartland on the SDAV calendar, and the track is a driver and crew favourite! The facilities are second to none, providing not only a wonderful track to race on but also allowing comfort of crew and fans alike. A special relationship has been forged between long time friends of the SDAV Hotrods and the Heartland team. Some of our most fun memories being at Heartland Raceway include; the running of our 50th anniversary title in 2016, a historical moment for our club! Russell Hovey arriving with not one, not two and not even three but six SDAV hotrods in tow aboard his truck and trailer!! The legendary winning streak from Dean West, who managed to win seven Moama feature races in a row!! Which I can assure you, he has and will continue let every man, woman and child remember for generations to come... 05.01.2022 TRACK FACT THURSDAY NYORA Tucked away in Gippsland territory, is the fun little track of Nyora Raceway! ... Known for its famous railway line crossing borders and situated next to the local cricket club, this fast paced track has most certainly seen some amazing SDAV action over the years. The SDAV’s first started racing at Nyora in the early 1970’s, and ran the first Victorian title at Nyora in the 2008-2009 season, which seen second generation racer Allan Pitcher claim the much sort after VIC1. When you hear the current drivers talk about racing at Nyora, there is always one story that comes to the forefront. One night whilst racing at Nyora, one driver and his SDAV Hotrod vanished! Shannon Meakins was still relatively new to SDAV action at this point in time and when he didn’t return to the pit area after a heat race his fellow competitors got deeply concerned. All of a sudden we hear the sound of an SDAV in the distance and out of nowhere Shannon appears coming over the railway line returning to the pit area. Now if you ask Shannon he will claim he could see the neighbors cooking a BBQ and went to visit, but I think we all know he jump simply got lost!! We cannot wait to return to Nyora raceway in the upcoming season and look forward to seeing if Shannon has managed to get a map of the pit area and where he is parked! 05.01.2022 TRACK FACT THURSDAY ROSEDALE SPEEDWAY The SDAV Hotrods first hit the track at Rosedale in the early 1970’s, and ever since the roar of the V8 engine has been a crowd pleaser! ... Even though Rosedale is only a home base for a handful of drivers currently on the SDAV roster, the entourage of cars still make the four hour journey to the track at least once a season for the spectacular open wheeler night event. Described by some drivers simply as you drive to the end of the earth turn left and then you will arrive, you would think it wasn’t a highlight but in fact is one of the most anticipated events on the calendar for our drivers! The track officials, crew and volunteers at Rosedale look after each and every class amazingly! The track, the pits and spectator areas are a true credit to the Rosedale Team. Some of our most fondest memories at Rosedale include the first appearance of the crazy pink flamingo pool toy which has pranked its way around many different cars. SDAV driver Chris Wilks had he’s first ever podium finish at Rosedale and Tom Marco had his first ever race at Rosedale speedway! We cannot wait to get back into the action at Rosedale soon!! Kali the only current lady racer in our pack, has been known on occasion to be accused of jumping the start, although has to this day never admitted the fact. We happen to have one video in particular on file (provided by the one and only Dean West) which helped determine there was in fact at least one time in her racing career this did happen. Dean West was also noted as being the car which was jumped and may have had a biased view of events. Either way this has put our lady racer on the naughty list...
