23.01.2022 Unfortunately due to the present health emergency our community finds itself in the SDHS Committee have decided to close our Folk & Water Wheel Museums until further notice. We also advice that our next gathering on April 5th, a combined luncheon will also be cancelled. The May History Month activities are still awaiting a decision... We look forward to getting back to our normal program as soon as possible. Thanks for your understanding Des Brown President



20.01.2022 Welcome to the Facebook page of the Salisbury and District Historical Society. The society was established in 1981 and formed to promote the discussion of South Australian and Australian history, particularly within the district of Salisbury. Tasks of the society include the collection, recording and classification of works; source materials of all kinds relating to the district of Salisbury and to facilitate access to the collection by the community. The society also produc...es a quarterly newsletter. The society is managed by a committee, presided by Des Brown and includes the following members: Delwyn Ayling (Vice President), Lynette Potter (Secretary), Jan and Hugh Tonkin (Treasurers), Jim and Glenyss Trenorden, Jennifer Paine, Raelene Brown and Alice Foster. The society is also pleased to have Shiralee Reardon on the committee as the Salisbury Council Representative. General meetings with guest speakers are held regularly at the societys museum (the original Salisbury Police Station) on a wide variety of topics on a historical theme; members of the public are welcome to attend at no charge. The society also manages an historic waterwheel on Commercial Road near the Little Para River. More information on the society, museum, waterwheel and upcoming events will follow soon. The purpose of this page is to provide access to the societys newsletters, information about upcoming events and regular interesting historic facts relating to the district of Salisbury. So, thank you for your interest and we look forward to sharing with you the wonderful history of the district of Salisbury.

17.01.2022 Adelaide- 43-45 Park Terrace Salisbury- This Grand Bungalow was built in 1920 and has been replaced with an Aldi supermarket. I took these photos late July la...st year just days before it was totally demolished. Help save South Australia's history from demolition. alerted me to this one with the link to their post in the comments below. Julie-Anne Turner who did some research and found out that the above property was originally owned in 1921 by a Florence Ida Bussenschutt (born Harvey), born June 12th 1868 and died on June 7th 1945. Florence's husband was Henry Bussenschutt who died on July 5th 1955: From 1945 Henry Bussenschutt and Ernest Harvey a fruit grower, took on the property up until 1955. Then for a short period of time another farmer known as Henrrich Bammann and a land broker Arthur Gaetjens until 1958 when a welder and his wife took over the property. Clarence and Davis owned the property until 1986. Then the portion of the land was transferred over to JETOARN PTY. LIMITED. Another building that should have been heritage to the local area lost......... See more

07.01.2022 The Salisbury and District Historical Society produces a quarterly newsletter and we are pleased to advise that the September edition is now available. This quarter the society talks about Shirley Hall one of the oldest and possibly the most spectacular residence in Salisbury; Ann Pitman Harvey who was married to John Harvey, the founder of Salisbury; ploughing competitions which were held in Salisbury in the 1800s and as features in every edition, the Presidents Report, ...a Stop the Press Article and information on a former Salisbury resident. 04.01.2022 We are very pleased with the latest addition to our Museum. The Police uniform of Senior Constable First Class Donald Tanner. Snr Const Tanner was the last serving officer to live in the old Salisbury Police Station, now our Museum. He resigned in 1969
