17.01.2022 This week was an important one as we celebrated National NAIDOC Week. Children were taught the significance of this week by participating in activities. Children learned about our beautiful land and set up wonderful displays of our native history at SDN Pyrmont. Children also engaged in dot painting using cotton buds on large pieces of bark. The bark is from our very own backyard at SDN Marrickville! We also had one of our parents come and speak to children about the Aborig...inal flag and enjoy dancing and story time with children. At SDN Marrickville they commemorated Remembrance Day on 11/11 and spoke about our brave soldiers as they fought for our country, and children made drawings to say thank you and pay their respects. Children at our Centres learned about culture, art, history, geography and much more throughout this momentous week.
17.01.2022 SDN Marrickville and SDN Pyrmont celebrated Diwali, the Festival of Lights. Diwali signifies the triumph of good over evil, represented by the brightness of lights and colour. Children created beautiful displays, made candle holders out of baking dough and decorated them, and they also watched a cultural dance performance by one of our educators.
16.01.2022 This week, we reflect on and celebrate National NAIDOC week and this year’s theme ‘Always Was, Always Will Be’, which recognises that First Nations people have occupied and cared for this continent for over 65,000 years. Here's a look back at NAIDOC Week in 2012 at SDN Redfern where William, who attended the centre in his earlier years, returned to perform the Willie Wagtail Dance with his mother. Children were delighted to watch the performance before being encouraged to perform as emus and kangaroos. #NAIDOC202
