23.01.2022 Due to today’s announcement by the NSW Government whereby additional restrictions are now in place ie anyone who lives or has worked either full time or part ti...me in the 4 LGAs mentioned (Sydney CBD, Woollahra, Waverley & Randwick) are now subject to a stay at home order until midnight Friday 2nd July. This means many of our Coaches, Managers, Referees, Club Officials, Players and Parents will be affected. We understand that this change in restrictions will have an impact on many of our teams and would be detrimental to those teams in our Association, leading to many games being unplayable due to unavailability. This will also apply to midweek fixtures scheduled for the week commencing 28th June. In consideration of the impact of the restrictions and more importantly keeping all members in our Association safe, SDSFA have made the decision to pause all fixtures this weekend. By doing this we increase the likelihood of having a close to normal season. These fixtures are expected to be played at a later date. While we understand the decision may be scrutinised by some, we believe that the above decision is in the best interest of our member’s health and the responsible thing to do.

20.01.2022 "To you, the fan in the stands. You find it well within your rights to shout insults, language, the constant harassing and personal attacks on me and my family. Take a moment and consider for a moment, that under that referee uniform there is a person, just like you, someone’s grandfather, father, son, husband, daughter, wife, girlfriend, daughter or partner. You don't know what one goes through to become a referee, so we can then officiate at the match of your favorite team.... You don't know the training and fitness tests in the cold and rain so cold that it stings your face, In the Sun so hot that doesn't let you breathe, you don't know the sleepless nights because you know that the game that awaits you in the morning will be a battle, you don't know if next Saturday night will be spent at home or in a hotel room because at the crack of down on Sunday I am away from my loved one’s. We start our journey to your match, not sure of racing on the highway because the mishap has delayed me, you do not know of the suffering when the Inspector or assessor gives you a low score, you don't know of insults at the end of the match win lose or draw. You don’t know of the threats of harm, the security and wasted energy to keep you away from me and my team. What do you know about me? What do you know of the referee? So the next time you go to the stadium, why not applaud the referee or if you encounter me in the street, give me a smile. Imagine a game without me. It is only a game right? Respect the referee

14.01.2022 With sadness we say farewell to senior referee Joshua Arena. Josh has been a referee within the Southern Districts Referees branch for the last 5 seasons. Jos...h started refereeing while playing Goal Keeper in the NSW NPL3 competition. He quickly learned that he had a passion for refereeing and he stopped as a player. It wasn’t very long before Josh moved up through the levels of games within SDSFA and was always extremely involved in the branch and wider football community. In 2019, Josh decided to join NSW State League Football Referees as well as taking on the role of Vice President in our referees branch. Despite being a regular on the NSW NPL panels, he was always committed to bringing back his learnings and passing them on to the younger referees. His passion for the development of all referees was clear when he took on the role of Branch Coach in 2020. This season, Josh has worked with over 30 new referees, most of which, he instructed on their Level 4 courses. Josh’s familiar face and invaluable experience will leave a massive gap in Southern Districts Referees and SDSFA. We will all miss him and wish him every success in his future endeavors. 12.01.2022 Please note that Liverpool & Fairfield Councils have closed their grounds for the weekend. The Premier League matches set down for Fairfield Showground on Saturday 20/3/21 ARE STILL GOING AHEAD as scheduled as it is not council property. ALL other matches are cancelled.
