13.01.2022 #OnThisDay 2 October 1964, Gladesville Bridge was officially opened by Princess Marina, Duchess of Kent. The bridge was designed by G Maunsell & Partners of Lon...don with the designs being approved by famous bridge engineer Eugène Freyssinet. At the time of its completion it was, at 305 metres, the longest single-span masonry or concrete bridge in the world. Its design features and innovative construction methods set new standards for bridge design and construction. Gladesville Bridge marked the transition from steel bridge technology, as represented by the Sydney Harbour Bridge, to that of concrete and confirmed the arrival of pre-stressed concrete as a major bridge-building material in Australia. It was the first major concrete arch bridge in the world that was built using precast segments and was one of the first bridges designed with the aid of a computer. In 1965 Gladesville Bridge was awarded a Civic Design Award by the Royal Australian Institute of Architects and, in 2014, Engineers Australia recognised the bridge with an Engineering Heritage International Marker.

12.01.2022 Next recently handed over the six level, four Star Green Star Self storage facility for Storage King in Pymble! The self storage facility for Storage King inclu...ded part demolition of the existing building, retention of the existing warehouse structure and slab as well as the addition of two new levels. The new six level facility accommodates 12,000sqm of internal storage space, with three hundred and thirty three self-storage units of various configurations and size. The second level of the building was tenanted, this proved challenging logistically and required Next to sequence works to allow the business to remain operational during construction. The Next Storage King Pymble team recently welcomed their co-workers for a socially distanced site tour of the project as it approached handover. The company gathered for an overview of the project progress from our site team, and was briefed by Next CEO, Joseph Di Girolamo on our fourth quarter results for FY20. Joseph highlighted Next’s key achievements over the last quarter. Despite the uncertain economic landscape due to the coronavirus crisis, Next have continued to deliver our projects whilst ensuring our staff and visitors to our site’s safety and wellbeing. The Next team were further briefed on the FY21 business plan, noting Next’s strong position with a secured forward pipeline of work through to 2023 in Next’s specialised sectors being Aged Care, Student Accommodation, Hotels and Leisure precincts and future projects currently being negotiated and in planning to commence following completion of the current work in hand. The quality of the project delivered is a testament to the continued hard work and dedication of the team involved in bringing the project to completion and showcases Next’s capability in building collaboratively in live environments. Well done to the project team! #Next #Contracting #Construction #BuildingCollaboratively #complete #project #nswdevelopments #sydney #storage #storageking #building #pymble #covid19 #coronavirus
