25.01.2022 Designed and built just a few of years ago by 'owner-builders' a stone's throw from our design studio, this home stands out as something 'a little different' in... what is typically a quiet little coastal community. The owners wanted a comfortable home - but with a modern appeal. The home enjoys a North aspect and outdoor living area, with 'framed' views of the ocean from each South-facing window. The combination of 'Scyon' cladding in a contrasting (nearly monchromatic) colour scheme with timber features provide a striking facade, and a dash of green identifying the entry to the home from the road adds some colour. The best compliment any building designer can receive is "it's such a comfortable home - we love it!". Not only does the design align with the owner's lifestyle, but the energy-efficient inclusions (double-glazed windows, quality insulation and orientation) provide that comfort. From speaking with the owners, their electricity bills have been more than halved from their previous (smaller) home, which is much more than just a 'nicety' after investing in a new home.
23.01.2022 After a couple of years in an energy-efficient studio on the South West Victorian coastline (with no heating or cooling) - which has been very comfortable for 99% of the time, I've finally conceded and had a radiant wood heater installed - (thanks Ric Smith). This will keep a consistent temperature in the studio - for comfort...and for some added 'ambience' - cute isn't it?
12.01.2022 I just received a very nice text message from a client that had me design their home a couple of years ago on their family farm... "This house is amazing! Just got off motorbike, been checking sheep all morning, walk inside and house is warm from winter sun pouring in. You would swear heater is on "... ...this made my day, thanks for the message.
11.01.2022 Just sharing some quality joinery from a local tradesman that practices traditional skills with outstanding results. Brings a tear to an old joiner's eye.
10.01.2022 Some good news for those building and renovating in 2020.
08.01.2022 Looking forward to seeing this recently completed design starting construction very soon. It's great to see local company G.R. Carr Building Contractors taking on the project build.
06.01.2022 It's been a long time since our last project post - but not to disappoint this home is worth it. The owners of this beautiful family home have put a very person...al touch into their quality additions. We were fortunate to be involved in from the initial design and planning stages right through to construction documentation. Before the design had even started, the discussion was around how to preserve the character and building fabric of the century old 4-room Victorian home, but provide a contemporary and comfortable separate family space for the owner's growing family to enjoy. Working with our clients' vision of "something a little different" - a concept was soon conceived that was definitely not considered 'traditional' by today's standards. Solar orientation, occupant comfort and light in a large open-plan living space was achieved through pushing the new section of building away from the old home and rotating it slightly toward the North. This allowed a space that 'links' the new to old, resolving issues with connecting the roofs, and provided a space to include the main Entry and bathroom with a passage connecting old and new. It also provided a sheltered space to the North for outdoor living which opens up directly from the main living hub of the home in the new section - but most importantly, with both working and raising a family, it allowed them to work on the home over a period of time without having to move out of their existing home. The owners of this beautiful home, one of which is a local tradesperson in high-demand, not only used their excellent workmanship skills, but combined the hand-skills with their vision for a fun home to live in, resulting in a stunning interior design outcome. The 'eclectic' interior is a credit to the owners vision, where it's obvious that a lot of thought has gone into the balance of textures, colours and eye-catching details. New and recycled timbers were used to clad the exterior walls, entry floor, decking and feature walls, recycled clay bricks with flush joints in the Entry, and again as a focal point in the Living room. Polished concrete, aged copper and steel with a pressed-metal ceiling in the Entry. Bright paint colours catch your eye throughout the home, contrasting against dark stained plywood and black surfaces - and all finished beautifully with large colourful artwork, the lighting selection, and the reflective surfaces that bounce the natural light around through the home. The photos really don't do the home justice, and there's one word that comes to mind when you first see this home...'WOW!'
02.01.2022 PDH GALA BALL - Saturday 5 October 2019 Help us raise money to furnish our Healing Garden which is currently being constructed by G.R Carr Building Contractors ...and beautifully designed by Scott McFarlane from Seabreeze Design. We successfully received $200,000 capital funds under the Victorian Government's Mental Health and Alcohol & Other Drugs Facilities renewal grants to construct this amazing indoor / outdoor space for patients, visitors and staff to enjoy. The Hospital Gala ball aims to raise funds to furnish this new modern space for the enjoyment of the whole community. We would love to see more sponsors be part of this sensational event to be held in October. As a community member, if you would like to attend the ball and help us furnish this area please book your table/tickets via link: https://www.stickytickets.com.au/90560 Sneak peak of the indoor / outdoor Healing Garden designs - we are very excited to watch this project progress.
