09.01.2022 To all Seacliff Judo Club members and families, due to current restrictions, Sensei Jason's surgery and commitments for other coaches the committee have decide...d to not return to training for the remainder of 2020. Also due to current COVID restrictions we have unfortunately decided to cancel the Break-up Party planned for the 5th of December 2020. We are so very sorry and this decision has not been easy, we wish you all a very Merry Christmas and we look forward to seeing you for hopefully a bigger and better 2021.....watch this space for the date of the Welcome Back party hopefully being held in January 2021! 07.01.2022 ***INTERVIEW WITH A MERMAID*** @seacliffkindergym - Mel I started at Seacliff KinderGym with my daughter in 2012 and was lucky to be given a role with the KinderGym Crew beginning 2014 when Friday sessions were added to the session list.... I love being a part of KinderGym and enjoy welcoming the children to their sessions each week in my role as ‘desk person’. I never dislike having to come to work because we always have a lot of fun together. I have never had a nickname until I started here and I have collected a few in that time, Mermaid Mel being the most prominent. Others include ‘Mellie’, ‘Mel on the desk’ & ‘Boris’ (don’t ask). When I’m not here I am busy with my children and a challenging rescue dog and I’m attempting to learn acoustic guitar. #seaclifkindergym #seacliffrecreationcentre #interviewswithourcoaches

02.01.2022 ***INTERVIEW WITH OUR COACHES*** Seacliff Judo Club - Brian In 2019 I had the honor of being given life membership to Seacliff Recreation Centre.... For almost all of my life I have lived in Brighton and have been nearby to the Seacliff Recreation Centre. Therefore I can give a first hand account of how someone in the area might take advantage of this wonderful facility. In 1968, when I was six years old, I was at the centre doing boys gymnastics - I would just like to point out, that was one year before man landed on the moon! In 1980 I came back and did Judo in the North Hall. I was 17 years old. Back then we had to set up the mats and stretch a canvas over the top of the mats before training, and then take it all apart at the end of training. In 1996 I brought two of my sons to Judo. They were eight and nine years old. Training was in the North Hall. In 2009 I brought two more sons, eight and ten years old, who are now black belts! They trained upstairs. In 2010 I stepped back onto the Judo mat aged 48! Soon after my wife and daughter became involved in the Judo club, yep on the mat!!!!! Until, injuries and pain put them into retirement. In 2015 I became the Judo Representative on the Board of Management and also in 2015 I became a Judo Referee for Kodokan. People come and go from the area, and they will not all be lucky enough to come to the centre. They will not all have the need for it continuously. But, when people do want to come into our little community, it's nice to know that the Seacliff Recreation Centre is here waiting and ready. To all of the coaches and volunteers who give up their time to help out at the centre, when you are wondering, if it is all worth it, it is. Now that I coach at Judo, I value this time here all the more. Hoping to see all your smiling faces at the Seacliff Recreation Centre for many years to come. 02.01.2022 ***INTERVIEW WITH OUR COACHES*** Seacliff Gymnastics Club - Laura Morden I first joined Seacliff Gymnastics when I was seven years old as a level one gymnast. Over my five years as a competition gymnast, I loved learning new skills and becoming stronger as an athlete. My favourite apparatus was Vault, as I was an incredibly fast runner. I competed level seven when I was twelve before I retired and joined the coaching team. ... I am now a competition coach at Seacliff Gymnastics, coaching level fours and fives, and I also run the Gymnastics for All program which welcomes athletes of all ability levels.
