11.01.2022 Our island is named in honour of sacrifice. On 22 March 1802 Matthew Flinders and his men bagged 31 Kangaroos. Half a hundred weight of meat was stewed into s...oup and as much steaks given, moreover, to both officers and men as they could consume by day and by night. This was the expeditions first fresh provisions in four months. Quietly respectful of the animal world, Flinders wrote: In gratitude for so seasonable a supply, I named this southern land Kanguroo Island. 03.01.2022 One of the positive things to come from the fires is that we now have Glossy Black Cockatoos at Sea Dragon Lodge Kangaroo Island. The previous owners of our property Mike and Cherry Hobbs planted 100s of casuarinas in the hope of building a habitat that would attract the endangered Glossy Blacks.
