22.01.2022 Yesterday our surveyors conducted an inspection of the Singapore-flagged container ship APL England at the Port of Brisbane anchorage. The ship was found to be ...fit, and brought safely into the Port at midday today. We are currently investigating the ship on two fronts. It's compliance with both Australian and international maritime safety standards, and also whether the ship has breached any Australian environmental protection regulations or standards. We are also continuing to provide drift modelling and working with NSW Maritime. If you discover any suspected debris or shipping containers along the NSW coastline, please contact the NSW Maritime Info Line on 13 12 36 or report via email to [email protected]. 21.01.2022 Safety on the water is a top priority, which is why our Storm Bay Zone Manager Jamie Marsh was quick to organise assistance when he received a call for help fro...m a stranded vessel 3km off Adventure Bay. The lads onboard had left Kettering and were headed for Pedra Branca only for the motor to cut out! Well done to Jackson and Evan on Immunity for getting the boat and their passengers to safety. Happy Friday everyone and please stay safe on the water!!

15.01.2022 Tasmania’s biggest off-shore race was on Duncan Hine’s bucket list and not only did he tick that box this year, he did it in style by landing a line honours/race record double. Photos, video + all the coverage: http://bit.ly/2KYH9qe

14.01.2022 Excellent to be working with Premier Peter Gutwein on stimulus initiatives to support, including for our important seafood sector. This includes some fees being... waived, interest free loans, payroll tax support and $300,000 from the Abalone Industry Development fund for processor support. Seafood is a vital sector, and we will continue to work with fisheries peak bodies, the Australian Government and relevant experts regarding recovery - and to come out the other side of this together. 12.01.2022 @droughtfloodaus and @RotaryAustralia are bringing ‘one stop shops’ to Bothwell on Thursday 3 December to provide support and advice on the drought and challeng...es like COVID-19. These events bring together all levels of government, charities, not-for-profit and agricultural organisations to support farmers and rural and regional communities living through the immediate and longer-term effects of drought. It is an excellent opportunity for farmers, families and rural communities to grab a sausage sandwich, catch up with friends and neighbours and find out what support is available during drought and tough times. Come down to the Bothwell Town Hall, Alexander St, Bothwell between 4pm and 8pm and say hello.

12.01.2022 Careers on, in and around the water. Learn about seafood industry opportunities in Tasmania from 19-23 October. Apply now at www.wowtasmania.com.au - open to s...tudents in grades 9-12. This year’s Working on Water program will be hosted online due to the coronavirus - and there’s still plenty of opportunity to engage with people working across the seafood industry. Students will complete ~2 hours of content in the form of short videos and quizzes, and then attend live webinars with industry members. The video and quiz content explores the seafood and marine resource industry in four sections: marine science and research, marine resource management, seafood industry, and training and transferable skills. During the webinars, students can ask people working in the industry questions about their current roles, how they got there, and what skills and qualifications have been useful in their pathway.

11.01.2022 Today marks the beginning of National Science Week 2020, and to celebrate, every day this week we will be showcasing one of our amazing staff members, their sci...entific backgrounds and their fascinating insights into their professions and interests. To get things started, we have Huon’s Hannah Millward-Hopkins. Hannah has always been fascinated with how and why things work I was a very inquisitive child (annoyingly, so sorry mum and dad!) creating snail farms, growing rock crystals and generally making a mess around the house, Hannah said. Hannah went on to study marine biology at university, which combined, as she puts it, her enthusiasm for science and love of messing about in rock pools! She then went on to complete a masters in Marine Environmental Management and she also finished an Associate Degree in Aquaculture last year, which she started just before joining Huon. I first started with Huon on the ROV (Remotely Operated Vehicle) team, working on the water undertaking tasks like net inspections and fish health checks. After 2 years in this role, I moved into the feed control room where I now remotely feed and monitor our fish, Hannah said. My background in marine science has helped me in both roles as understanding fish biology, behaviour and the environmental conditions we farm are critical for successful operations. #scienceweek
