23.01.2022 You got a chair? You have a stretch! Sound on This is a nice little stretch to open up the chest and get some controlled movement through the upper back. You can use a chair or a kitchen bench that is the right height for you. ... Place both elbows on a chair or bench top and slowly lower the hips back and down towards the floor. Keep the spine long and neutral, dont curve through the upper back or arch the lower back, hinge from the hips. Hold for 3-4 long slow breathes and enjoy the stretch See more

19.01.2022 **COVID-19 UPDATE** We are STILL waiting on confirmation from the Victorian Government that we as Myotherapists can continue to work face to face with patients, but recommendations from our professional membership associations is that we can, at least temporarily, IF our patient has a current referral from their GP. SO, if you do not have a referral from a GP to say you can continue to see us, we unfortunately WILL NOT be able to treat you. Anyone with a booking in the next 6 weeks, we will be in contact with you as soon as we can. We hope everyone stays safe, follows the recommendations and we will see you all on the other side of this, bigger and better than ever

18.01.2022 Call to Arms Do you miss your myotherapist? Have you deteriorated without treatment? Have aches and pains been harder to manage without your Myo? Then PLEASE read on.. Yesterday we were informed that the Victorian government is continuing to restrict access to face-to-face myotherapy services. With the intended date of reopening being 26th October 2020. To say we, the team at Seaford Myotherapy, are shattered by this news, would be an understatement. The government h...as not given any evidence to their reasons for this decision and has not consulted any internal or external allied health experts in this process. So where does that leave us? Same place we have been for the last seven weeks unfortunately. The guidelines are that only those on an endorsed plan AND requiring essential care are able to be seen. An endorsed program is those who are on a care plan through your GP such as NDIS, TAC, WorkCover. Unfortunately, due to not being allied health we have not got access to these programs. This is where we need your help! If you are as frustrated as us with the Victorian Governments response and believe Myotherapy is an essential service the best way to ensure that your concerns are heard is to contact your local member directly, and urge them to ensure continued access for patients to myotherapy at this crucial time. We are campaigning hard but we need your input too! Heres what to include: - How myotherapy is helping/has helped. - Doctors/surgeons referral (where appropriate) - What else was attempted for relief - What would happen if you cant acces myotherapy (e.g increased GP/Hospital/Specialist visits) And where to send it: - Peta Murphy MP Federal Member for Dunkley: [email protected] - Premier (Daniel Andrews): [email protected] - Minister for health (Jenny Mikakos): [email protected] - Chief health officer (Brett Sutton): [email protected] Please feel free to forward us a copy of your letter at: [email protected] We thank you in advance, we love our little community and hope we can be back helping you ASAP! - Love Kaileigh, Brooke and Bec See more

16.01.2022 What is the difference between myotherapy and remedial massage therapy This is a question that comes up quite a bit. While most people know that they are two types of health practitioners, there can be confusion as sometimes you can have treatment from a Myotherapist or Remedial Massage therapist that seems almost the same. So what is the difference between myotherapy and remedial massage? To start with, while there are some similarities in the education pathways ear...ly on, Myotherapy then branches off to an extra level of study. There are also a few bachelor degree options at university level for myotherapy, which is not the case for remedial massage. When it comes to definitions, they are as follows: - Myotherapy is the evidence based assessment, treatment and rehabilitation of musculoskeletal pain and associated conditions. - Remedial Massageis the systematic assessment and treatment of the muscles, tendons, ligaments and connective tissues of the body to assist in rehabilitation, pain and injury management. To most people, this may not sound overly different. So to put it a little more simply, Remedial Massage Therapists generally focus on assessing and treating the symptoms of musculoskeletal pain and discomfort; whereas a Myotherapist will both assess and treat the symptoms while investigating the underlying cause/s (which can be behavioural, postural, involve muscular imbalances, etc) and work towards addressing these as well See more

15.01.2022 Sound on Stiff/Tight neck? Try these three stretches/exercises to encourage some movement through your neck! 1. Side neck stretch using hand to increase stretch. 2. SCM pinch and stretch (be gentle with this one!).... 3. Upper Trap pinch and stretch (again be gentle!). When performing these it shouldnt feel too painful, more that good type of pain that you might be used to if you regularly visit us! Any questions shoot them through to us via DM or comment on this post. We are hoping to have a few of these type of videos for you guys over the following weeks so if theres anything youd like us to cover, let us know See more

13.01.2022 Meditation We hear a lot about meditation being really important for looking after ourselves but actually getting into a routine with it is easier said than done. It has been around for so long that you know there has to be something to it, its just getting started that is the hard part. Keeping expectations realistic is really important. That means not expecting yourself to go from nothing to meditating 20 minutes, every day and feeling zen after every session! If y...ou go into it expecting this, youre only going to be disappointed and disheartened when it doesnt work and give it up before its even had a chance to help. So start small. 5 minutes, 4-5 times a week is a good place to begin. You dont have to do it every day to get benefits but like exercise, eating well or looking after yourself, you do have consistently enough to see results. Use an app, like Headspace and find a comfy place and time of day that works well for you most days and get cracking! Dont expect to not get distracted, you will and thats fine, its about building your awareness of that distraction and learning to let it go and focus again. The benefits of meditation are subtle, you wont all of a sudden be amazingly zen and be able to cope with everything calmly but you will notice changes. They will be subtle to start and build as your practice does. If you need any advice on where to start, send us a DM! Bec (@becthemyo) has been meditating for a couple of years now and is always happy to chat See more

11.01.2022 Thank you! Our thoughts and thanks are with all our clients, friends and family working on the frontline, fighting to keep us Melbournians safe! We are so very grateful to you, turning up everyday, seeing things us in the general public couldnt (and wouldnt want to!) even imagine. So thank you, from the team at Seaford Myotherapy

11.01.2022 Get that body moving Sound on Another great stretch/exercise from one of the team @brooke_themyo. If youve been sitting down that little bit more with the current lockdown (pretty sure thats all of us!) this is a great one to try. Using the wall as a prop, place your toes on the wall, heel on the floor and move the legs into a split stance. While bending the back knee, gently hinge at the hips like you are sitting down, keeping that spine nice and long. You can do this as a stretch but as Brooke says, it can be a bit much. So moving back and forth into it 5-10 times each leg is a good place to start

09.01.2022 Happy Spring everyone

08.01.2022 STRETCH SERIES CLASS With lockdown having been extended another two weeks, we want to be able to help you manage your aches and pains. 08.01.2022 Happy Monday all We are all feeling pretty frustrated at the moment and would love to be back working seeing you all BUT we thought wed swing the focus to something a tad more positive today... How weve been keeping ourselves busy over the past month and a bit! @kaileigh.myo has taken on the massive task of restoring her front deck under the careful eye of her (adorable!) site foreman. She has also been getting her geek on and begun writing a timeline of the kings and ...queens from William the conquerer to our current Queen Elizabeth and learning a little about them as she goes, something shes wanted to do for years but has never had the time @brooke_themyo has been focusing on keeping moving. Walking and working out almost daily while spending some good quality time reading and getting into the baking like plenty of other Melbournians @becthemyo has been focusing on keeping healthy while growing her little bub. Shes pretty happy to have her bump reach the stage where its actually handy See more

06.01.2022 Long time no see We thought you guys might be missing our faces... We are definitely missing all of yours!! Its been a looooong three weeks, even the weathers not been helping us much lately! But it will change, much the same as everything else happening, or should I say, not happening in Melbs. Onwards is the only way

05.01.2022 Speaks for itself Our bodies were made to move! If you dont have the energy for a workout or a run or even a walk, just try to stand up, swing your arms, move your neck, do a few slow squats. We promise youll feel better for it!

04.01.2022 E.X.E.R.C.I.S.E Why is our view of it so skewed? When most of us think of exercise we think of losing weight (thanks diet industry!) or that it needs to be hard or intense for it to be effective. ... Exercise is simply structured activity, performed to sustain or improve health and fitness. For the average person, it doesnt need to be much more that that for it to be effective. Simples exercises, performed regularly, can improve the pattern of activation of our muscles. This in turn helps decrease our injury risk and improves the quality and comfort of movement when doing everyday tasks. So dont feel like you need to do lots to see a change! If you need any advice on where to start, you know where to find us See more

04.01.2022 And back in we go... As we approach lockdown 2.0 we are really feeling for those businesses that were just getting back up on their feet after a lessening of restrictions. Fingers crossed everyone can hold on through the next round and we see you all on the other end! We wanted to also clarify that as an essential service, by the current Victorian governments classifications, we will be remaining open for business for the time being. ... We hope everyone is staying strong! This is a rough time and remind everyone to stay healthy and keep moving, the better shape we are in physically and mentally, the better we can fight See more

04.01.2022 Different Times We appreciate all those thinking of us, calling in to reschedule appointments when unwell or exercising caution with the increase in Covid-19 diagnoses. Unfortunately that does leave our diaries a little more happy than usual. Though not ideal for us, this may work out in your favour. If youve been struggling to get in of late, check out our online bookings or give us a call on 0490 067 840

02.01.2022 Take a moment Sending love out to anyone who needs it today. This too shall pass. Love the team at Seaford Myo

02.01.2022 Less than a month to go! We couldn’t wait and so this baby has been up for a few weeks now but when it’s this pretty how could we not! 02.01.2022 Things are looking up We hope everyone had a great weekend. It was good being able to get out and socialise and even though it was still restricted, it helps that we can now see the light at the end of the tunnel! We are loving being back in the clinic and it being so busy but need to make sure we are looking after ourselves too! We encourage people to book ahead if you know there’s a possibility you’ll need a repeat appointment. Don’t forget we also have a Waitlist too

01.01.2022 Theres more to say after R U Ok Ask R U Ok Listen with an open mind Encourage action and offer support ... Make time to Check in Today is R U Ok day in Aus and its even more important this year, especially here in Melbs. If you havent heard from a mate in a little longer than usual or have been thinking about checking in with someone, do it today! Check out @ruokday for some tips on how to best check in with people and show you are listening and that you care See more

01.01.2022 Happy Monday all We hope everyone had a great weekend with the loosened restrictions. So good to be able to get further than 25km finally! It’s a very busy week at the clinic this week, with just the one appointment available so far. 01.01.2022 We are shattered to be posting this but unfortunately with the current stage 4 restrictions we have no choice but to close our doors. According to the most recent guidelines from the DHHS, myotherapy is only available for critical care, where treatment is necessary to prevent a significant deterioration in functional independence which would result in an escalation of care. Unfortunately this does not cover routine or general treatments. We are still here to help you th...ough! If you need advice or just want a chat, please contact us via the clinic mobile 0490 067 840 or email any of us: Kaileigh - [email protected] Brooke - [email protected] Bec - [email protected] This is only temporary! As soon as we can, we will be back, bigger than ever See more
