07.01.2022 Dugong hunting in the 1870s and 1880s was mainly controlled by one John Lionel Ching. After hunting dugong in Wide Bay until they become very scarce he then moved to what is now known as Acacia Island formally known as Chings Island. John Ching originally named it Dunheved Island which was the old name for Launceston in Cornwall where he was from. Thanks for the label photos Linsay Ballinger.
