24.01.2022 Leptospirosis is a very dangerous disease that has been seen recently in dogs Newtown, Surry Hills and surrounds. If you travel with your dog into this area ask our vets about vaccination.

22.01.2022 Wow! He's done it again! Thank you very VERY much David for yet again another FABULOUS piece of Christmas airbrush on our window! This year the wonderful design was provided by one of our vets: Dr Libby Thompson (you might recognize her style from our video in reception ). The reason for the Wildlife theme this year is that because of the fires last and this year, a lot of wildlife has lost their homes or even worse, got injured or died.... our Australian wildlife is precious and unique, and we need to look after it the best we can! Much to all of you, may 2021 bring you lots of joy, happiness and good health! Team Seaforth Vets

20.01.2022 Leptospirosis In the lower North Shore of Sydney Last week The University of Sydney Veterinary Teaching Hospital identified two cases of Leptospirosis and advis...ed all dog owners in Surrey Hills, Newtown and surrounding areas of the Inner West to vaccinate their dogs. Last year there were eight identified cases in the Inner West of Sydney. This week North Shore Veterinary Specialist Hospital has identified a case of Leptospirosis in their local area of the lower north shore. This is the first case detected by NSVS. At first Leptospirosis may cause dogs to become very lethargic, with an elevated body temperature, vomiting, and diarrhoea. It then often progresses to symptoms consistent with liver and kidney failure. Dogs become infected directly by being in contact with rat urine, if those rats are carrying the disease, or indirectly if in contact with contaminated water or soil. Dogs can also become infected by hunting and eating rats. Leptospirosis is a zoonotic disease which means that humans can become infected. Leptospirosis has not been identified on the Northern Beaches. The University recommends vaccination for those who live or travel to the Inner West, NVSC recommends vaccination for those within a 5km radius of Artarmon or Crows Nest. Please speak with our staff about vaccinating your dog if within these risk groups. Initially, it is a course of two vaccines approximately four weeks apart. Following this your dog would be vaccinated against Leptospirosis annually.

17.01.2022 Sydney Dingo Rescue is a registered charity that is running a great fundraiser this September. As the weather warms up we begin to turn our thoughts to the many, many care organisations who supported our wildlife through those fires and continue to do so. Would you like a pawsome portrait of your best friend? https://app.moonclerk.com/pay/18jxc1v6fpam They are offering original pet portraits in an array of different styles and sizes. Prices range from $30 to $60 and 100% of proceeds going towards the animals at the Sydney Dingo Rescue! Talented volunteer artists will be creating these portraits using their own original styles and you can look at them by clicking on the event page.

12.01.2022 Moo needs a loving home!! Can you find a place in your heart and home for this gorgeous girl? She's a 3.5 yeas old, desexed domestic purrball. She loves humans and cuddles and is loving and warm when in the right environment. She doesn't like other cats so would need to have you to herself (-: But she does walk on a lead if required so who needs another cat when you have a Moo?!!! Call us at Seaforth Vets on 9949 1288 to arrange to meet her.

08.01.2022 Have you seen Georgie from Manly Vale?

08.01.2022 Any one living in or visiting the area may find native wildlife seeking shelter having lost food and habitat. If you can put out water in a shallow dish, put ropes or floats in your pools so any animals that fall in seeking a drink can climb back out and call wildlife groups for assistance or to answer queries if you aren't sure. Wildlife may have been burned, injure themselves walking across or landing on hot surfaces or suffer smoke inhalation. Note that we have many small native mammals - bandicoots, possums, eastern pygmy possums, feathertail gliders, antechinus and native rodents that live in North Head. Please do not use any ratbait thinking you may have pest species but ask for an ID Thanks for you help

07.01.2022 We would like to say a big HUGE thank you to the lovely Francesca, who came in today to donate this bed/home/playground for our littlest patients. Francesca made this especially for us because, in her own words: "you look after all the animals and I just wanted to give something back". Thank you SO much Francesca, we have no doubt they are going to love it! PS Francesca: don't worry, we have chased Ronny from the RSPCA already out of the bed, we'll make sure to find a more suitable sized little one to sleep and play in it!

06.01.2022 We were delighted to be able to donate our old blood analyser to the conservation department at Taronga Zoo. They rewarded us with some zoo passes and we would love to share these with our lovely clients. Post a photo of your own pocket tiger, house dingo, domestic eagle, rabbit about town or other menagerie beastie to enter the draw for tickets. Winners drawn on Sunday 20th Sept.
