24.01.2022 Late last night Seaham responded to a vehicle fire on East Seaham road. We attended with both our Cat 1 and Cat 7 appliances with the help of Bowthorne Cat 1. Vehicle was extinguished and secured for police. Well done to all involved on a quick and safe fire resolution.

22.01.2022 In recent days we've seen more fires starting as a result of harvesting - like when equipment heats up or isn't maintained properly. Harvest fires can start eas...ily and destroy crops and livelihoods. When conditions deteriorate, we may issue a Harvest Safety Alert. Know what it means - and what to do. 22.01.2022 Congratulations to the winners in RFSA Raffle 110! MAJOR PRIZE WINNER: # 2100522046 Early Bird Prize: # 2100297913 Supplementary Prize Winner: # 2100527836... Malcolm from Port Macquarie, was the lucky winner of Raffle 109 and $25,000 cash. My initial reaction was disbelief, as I rarely win raffle prizes! Asked why he supports the RFSA he said, Whether the personnel of RFSA are paid staff or volunteers, when they leave home to attend events we witnessed last summer, they have no guarantee they will return to their loved ones or not. Some jobs require dedication. Theirs is total commitment. Support the RFSA and be in the running to win $25,000 Cash and some other great prizes. www.rfsaraffle.org.au

19.01.2022 The federal environment minister Sussan Ley has approved a controversial rock quarry project in Port Stephens that will clear 52 hectares of koala habitat. Her... approval is conditional on the project including a 74 hectare habitat corridor. Her office says "the corridor will establish high quality koala habitat across the wider site including bushfire buffer zones, car and dog strike protection". I recognise that the proposal has been subject to a high profile public campaign that has tapped into the genuine concerns we all share about koalas and bushfire impacted areas, Minister Ley said in a statement. In respecting that concern, I have delayed this decision to ensure a thorough review of all previous reports and ensured the Department commissioned and funded its own independent report from one of the nation’s most respected koala experts. The clear finding from the NSW Government and the Commonwealth Department is that Brandy Hill’s expansion, to be staged over the next 25 years, will not rob the area of critical koala habitat. The 74 hectare koala corridor can however play an important role in nurturing local populations and in delivering a net gain for local koalas by providing better quality habitat than is there at present."

13.01.2022 Hot weather is coming to parts of NSW over the next few days. The recent rain means increased growth and as it dries out, the risk of fire will increase. Take the time now to know your risk and get ready. Check www.myfireplan.com.au for advice on making your bush fire survival plan.

10.01.2022 This a hugh game changer.

07.01.2022 The Bureau of Meteorology has forecast heat wave conditions to affect much of NSW until at least next Tuesday. This will increase the fire risk across much of state with Very High and Severe fire danger likely on the weekend. Plan and prepare now.

06.01.2022 TEENAGE RFS VOLUNTEER CHARGED WITH DELIBERATELY LIGHTING FIRES ON NORTH COAST AN 18-year-old Rural Fire Service volunteer has been charged following an investig...ation into several alleged deliberately lit fires on the far north coast. Detectives from Tweed/Byron Police District established Strike Force Epicentre with assistance from the State Crime Command Financial Crime Squad’s Arson Unit to investigate more than a dozen grass fires, believed to be deliberately lit, in the Burringbar and Mooball areas between Wednesday 7th October 2020 and Tuesday 3rd November 2020. Police have also been assisted by NSW RFS fire investigators. As part of their inquiries police commenced an investigation of a suspicious grass fire near a property on Yarrabee Terrace at Stokers Siding, about 13km south-east of Murwillumbah, at about 6.30pm on Tuesday 3rd November 2020 which was reported to and extinguished by the NSW Rural Fire Service. Following extensive inquiries, about 7.50am on Wednesday 4th November 2020 police stopped a vehicle in Broadway Street, Burringbar, and arrested an 18-year-old Brendan Piccini. A subsequent search warrant was executed at a Burringbar home where officers located and seized a replica pistol. He was taken to Tweed Heads Police Station and charged with nine counts of intentionally causing fire and being reckless to its spread, and one count of possessing an unauthorised pistol. Police alleged Mr Piccini lit several blazes in the area before returning to respond to the fire as part of his duties as a volunteer. Investigations are ongoing. The NSW Rural Fire Service immediately stood down the member, and Mr Piccini with appear at Tweed Heads Local Court on 23rd November.
