24.01.2022 First day of summer vibes Max Dupain, one of Australia's most celebrated and respected photographers of the 20th century, turned his camera on the beach to create some of the country's most enduring images of sunbathers, surf lifesavers and swimmers. A master of light and form, this photograph shows Dupain's fascination with shadows, sand patterns and the people who made themselves at home on Australia's beaches. 06.01.2022 Michel Roggo has photographed freshwater regions worldwide, but this was the first time he had dived in the lake nearest to his home Lake Neuchâtel, Switzerland. Michel was diving near the water's surface when he spotted a huge pike disappearing into the mass of aquatic plants below, called watermilfoil. He sank down for a closer look and when he reached the bottom and glanced up, he found himself immersed in an 'underwater jungle with an endless view'. When Michel ...inspected the stems, extending up several metres, he noticed that some supported thick clusters of zebra mussels. Carefully manoeuvring his bulky diving gear in the tangle of vegetation, Michel composed his picture with a wide angle to convey the feeling of gazing up from a forest floor among throngs of towering trees. Discover some of the world's most spectacular photography in the Wildlife Photographer of the Year exhibition, on display now at the museum.
