24.01.2022 My speech this week honouring Kokoda veteran Bill Grayden AM on his 100th birthday, with Bill present in the Parliament. Bill is one of our treasured Australian legends, who served throughout WW2 and defended Australia in the perilous Kokoda campaign of 1942. He went on to serve 4.5 years in the Federal Parliament and 39.5 years in the Parliament of Western Australia. A remarkable history of service to our state and to our nation. We thank and honour Bill for his service and we wish him a Happy 100th Birthday. 2/16th Battalion - AIF Association 16th Battalion AIF 16th Battalion, The Royal Western Australia Regiment RSLWA

23.01.2022 Im calling for a greater army presence in WA to support defence and strategic objectives, whilst providing substantial economic stimulus. My article in The West Australian

23.01.2022 I am very disappointed at the heavy-handed approach the McGowan-Labor Government has taken against the Town of Cambridge. I remain in close contact with our local council and following the Ministers actions have met with Mayor Keri Shannon and offered my support. It seems highly unfair that a Minister would issue a show cause notice, without tasking his department to go and help the council and its administration to effectively work through any particular matters the Minis...ter happens to be concerned about. From my experience, the Town of Cambridges mayor and council have been working very effectively to support the local community. Examples include freezing increases to rates for several years during tough economic times, managing the Towns underground power program, being innovative in efforts to re-direct the Floreat drain water to Perry Lakes, plus their many and varied efforts to support community groups, along with efforts to help revitalise local sporting clubs and surrounds. Plus, they have been working hard to improve the complex tasks of planning for urban growth, fixing up local planning approvals processes, reforming council administration, and improving overall council efficiency. What better indicator of community support for the local Mayor and councillors other than the fact that at the recent local council elections they were elected unopposed! I am calling on the Minister to stop his threats of suspending the council and instead request that he take a much more supportive and constructive approach to support the Town of Cambridge. The current situation appears very one-sided and is unfair to the community who do not want the Minister to suspend their council. Keri Shannon

16.01.2022 My position on WAs border has not changed since 22 March. Keep it secure while the State of Emergency exists. Allow West Australians to return home safely with the proper quarantine protocols in place. Look for the opportunities. While interstate and international tourism is on hold - Diversify, build and grow the economy in other areas: Defence & Defence industries, Data & technology, Aquaculture, Agriculture, Mineral resources, Medical innovation, Culture & the arts, Cinematography, Economic infrastructure, etc etc. We have very bright and talented people in this state - use them while weve got them!

14.01.2022 Further easing of COVID-19 restrictions. Phase 4 - Sat 27 June: All existing gathering limits and the 100/300 rule removed; Gathering limits now only determined by WAs reduced 2sqm rule;... The 2sqm rule will include staff only at venues that hold more than 500 patrons; Removal of seated service requirements at food businesses and licensed premises; No requirement to maintain patron register at food businesses and licensed premises; Alcohol can be served as part of unseated service arrangements; All events permitted except for large scale, multi-stage music festivals; Unseated performances permitted at venues such as concert halls, live music venues, bars, pubs and nightclubs; Gyms operating unstaffed, but regular cleaning must be maintained; The casino gaming floor reopening under agreed temporary restrictions. For WAs major sport and entertainment venues, a 50 per cent capacity rule will apply. Therefore, under Phase 4 the temporary capacity of Optus Stadium will be 30,633 for sport events (35,000 for concerts), HBF Park can hold 10,150 (16,500 for concerts) and RAC Arena can hold 7,150 (8,250 for concerts). Western Australians must continue to keep up physical distancing where possible and good personal hygiene to better protect themselves and the general health of our community. WA businesses will be expected to ensure their COVID Safety Plans are updated and continue to be implemented. COVID Safety plans help mitigate the risk of COVID-19, are in line with health advice and provide extra confidence to patrons and staff entering the business premises. Depending on infection rates locally, Phase 5 is planned to be introduced on Saturday, July 18 (effective from 11.59pm Friday, July 17) and will result in the removal of the 2sqm rule. It is also expected to see the removal of all gathering restrictions, other COVID-related rules introduced by the State Government and the 50 per cent capacity limit for major venues. Phase 6 was going to include the removal of WAs hard border with the rest of the country and travel restrictions currently in place for remote Aboriginal communities. A tentative date for the removal of WAs hard border was planned to be included as part of Phase 6, however this was put on hold due to the rapidly evolving situation in Victoria.
