25.01.2022 Our recent trip out on Seastar. Snorkelers were lucky to experience a cuttlefish. These marine molluscs of the order Sepiida. They belong to the class Cephalopoda, which also includes squid, octopuses, and nautiluses. Cuttlefish have a unique internal shell, the cuttlebone, which is used for control of buoyancy.

09.01.2022 The whitetip reef shark is a common and broadly distributed species. They are nocturnal, spending their nights hunting and their days resting in reef caves or sandy bottoms with large groups of fellow whitetips. In caves, whitetip reef sharks pile on top of each other like logs, lying motionless for hours because this species does not need to move to breathe. They often return to the same home cave for days or weeks at a time, sometimes longer.

02.01.2022 This is Seastar crew member Cedric who is monitoring the first successful coral tree grown, healthy coral Acropora Formosa (branching coral) that was secured to the reef, using the special reef-safe concrete mix. From here it will be inspected every 2-3 weeks, where observations on attachment, growth rates, predation and bleaching presence will be recorded. Contributing to the growing science of restoration and ensuring our processes are the best practices on the reef.

They live on or near the ocean floor. Sea cucumbers feed on tiny particles like algae, minute aquatic animals or waste materials.
