25.01.2022 Big shout out to artist Gabi Sturman for highlighting this important impact on the green turtle population with her amazing artwork 'One in One Hundred.' Some of the turtles are shown at the bottom of the flyer for the exhibition. She has created 120 life size turtle hatchlings, some emerging from their eggs, made from polished porcelain. Each turtle is individually hand painted, numbered and signed by Gabi. Much of Gabi's work has an environmental aspect. She devised this in...stallation artwork after finding out about the statistics with the large number of turtles hatching female. She wanted to take those numbers off the page and create an installation that visually demonstrates the significant and consequential effects of climate change on the green sea turtle. One of the turtles is not painted but is white, to reflect the disproportion of males to females, hence the one in a hundred title of the work. A large thank you to Gabi for donating part of the sale proceeds to the Sea Turtle Foundation. To see more: Instagram @gabisturman

24.01.2022 Not long now.... November to January are the months when turtles lay their eggs and the sand is warm enough for incubation. Hatching occurs six to eight weeks later. Turtle hatchlings can weigh up to 30 grams and measure about 5-7cm.... In mid November, the Sea Turtle Foundation will be releasing its own hatchlings with a limited number of hand crafted & painted, porcelain green turtle hatchlings created & signed by artist Gabi Sturman as a fundraiser for the Foundation. Photo of a real hatchling from Milman Island shown plus, for comparison, some photos from the exhibition at Atherton Regional Gallery in Qld.of the porcelain turtles. Three types available, hatching, emerging from egg with a single flipper, emerging from egg two flippers. More information in a few weeks on how to purchase these gorgeous hatchlings once the exhibition is over and help the Foundation with raising funds.
