24.01.2022 , . It's officially National NAIDOC Week, and this year’s theme is Always Was, Always Will Be. It's about recognising that First Nations... people have occupied and cared for this continent for over 65,000 years. The First Peoples engraved the world’s first maps, made the earliest paintings of ceremony and invented unique technologies. They also built and engineered structures predating well-known sites such as the Egyptian Pyramids and Stonehenge. Current research indicates that the average teenager spends approximately 7 hours and 22 minutes watching a screen (not including school time) every day! This resource, developed by Internet Safe Education, serves as a useful starting point, or reminder for us all. It includes ideas on how to start a conversation about internet safety, as well as identifying cues to look out for, if your child is exposed to harmful content online. 11.01.2022 To all our new Year 8 students in 2021 - please remember to make a uniform fitting booking!

11.01.2022 . A lot of warnings have been issued for children to stay off social media, specifically Tik Tok, d...ue to a graphic self harm video that’s circulating. While we do recommend that parents monitor their children or keep them off the platform, it's a band-aid solution for a long-term issue due to the fact that distressing videos constantly circulate online. Instead we would like to encourage all parents and guardians to -: 1 . Understand that they will most likely use it, whether you understand the appeal or not. Ask them what apps they use, find out why they like those apps. Start a dialogue so you can start understanding why it’s important to them. The more you understand about it, the more you can stay across it. 2 . If you know what apps they’re using, help them make their profile as secure as possible, whether it’s TikTok, Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, Twitch or Reddit (the list is endless). You can do this with the help of this eSafety Commissioner guide: www.esafety.gov.au/key-issues/esafety-guide 3 . Be open and willing to listen. Make them aware of Kids Helpline Official (1800 55 1800), Beyond Blue (1300 22 4636), headspace (headspace.org.au) and Lifeline (13 11 14) so they know they have a place to contact if they don’t feel comfortable approaching you. 4 . Kids often create a social media profile that they make visible to you, but keep their actual profile under a fake name hidden from you. Again, this is why we encourage you to talk to your child openly and honestly. 5 . If your child watches YouTube videos, please be aware there's no guarantee that this content will be safe for kids. People can easily edit distressing videos for kids that slip through the filters. If you can't monitor your child on YouTube then let them watch Netflix kids instead as it has stronger filters. SBS and ABC iview are both free alternatives for children’s online content. The Office of the eSafety Commissioner is a great resource for parents, guardians and kids: www.esafety.gov.au

09.01.2022 YEAR 8/9 GIRLS KNOCKOUT VOLLEYBALL | STATE FINAL RUNNERS UP Our 8/9 girls Volleyball team travelled to Brighton HS for the statewide KO finals. W...e are very proud of the girls for mixing it with Australia's best volleyball schools, showing great resilience, passion and skills. It certainly puts Seaview Volleyball on the map. 09.01.2022 2020 STATE CHAMPIONS POOL B | OPEN GIRLS VOLLEYBALL This very time a week ago, our Open Girls volleyball team set out to Lightsview Recreational Centre to compete in the Pool B State Finals. The combined team of seasoned year 12, 11 and 10 players, along with some new dynamite year 8 and 9 editions made this team a versatile and dangerous opponent. The day did not come without challenges; the first game saw us taking on long-time rivals Adelaide High School in a nailing b...iting two-set game where we went down by two points. The girls worked hard the rest of the day winning and finishing second in their pool meaning they would take on the first seed winner of the other pool, Marryaville, for a place in the grand final. Winning in the third set, the girls cemented themselves in a grand final position, to take on Reynella East, who in an upset beat AHS in straight sets. The girls came into the final composed, energized and ready to win; they took out the first set, and then in what seemed like the longest set of all time, Alaska C managed to serve the final ball at 23- 24 to cement the teams victory. Every player showed GRIT throughout the day and all experienced stand out success at different moments. A special mention to Captain Ella O for continuing to consistently be a voice and presence on the court, Taniel W for being a firesome front court commodity, and Kate S for her debut dominant, and consistent game play across the day. #Seaviewsport #Knockoutsport #Sportisback #Statechampions See more

07.01.2022 Attention all community members, As part of Seaview High School’s Mechanical Engineering course, our students have been developing mechanical skills, and learning how to apply them to small engines. The course they are doing has an underlying Community Studies focus, in which students involved help the community by repairing small engine equipment, and donating the equipment back into the community. The mechanical aspects of are based around general mechanics with some autom...otive extensions. Currently our students are working with 4-stroke and 2-stroke engines. They are dis-assembling them and then re-assembling them to gain knowledge and develop new skills and understandings. This is learning for life. As this course requires a turnover of engines for student learning, we are appealing to the general community to assist us by donating small engine equipment such as lawnmowers and whipper snippers. Your donation can be running or non-running. All donations have a purpose and assist our students to reach their learning and community goals. Our students will repair, and conduct maintenance on donated equipment while gaining new skills and knowledge. Community involvement and skills for life are valued outcomes of this course, which you can support directly through your donations. To arrange donation drop offs or pickups, please leave your details with our helpful office staff via the school’s contact phone number, (08) 8377 8000 Course teacher, Larry Byrne See more
