17.01.2022 Big News: Great Alvey Challenge Announced! In collaboration with Alvey Reels Australia we are chuffed to announce the Great Alvey Challenge fishing competition!... National Gone Fishing Day is on 15th October this year and ANSA QLD are encouraging Queenslanders to rig up their favourite Alvey Reel (or buy one from your local tackle shop) and go fishing! To celebrate an Aussie and Queensland fishing icon, we will be running a one day fishing competition in Queensland waters open to all anglers. Registration and fish capture entry will be managed completely online, so you can get involved no matter where you live in QLD. Only Alvey, non-drag sidecast reels can be used for this competition and all of the prizes up for grabs will be Alvey reels and gear! This is a great opportunity to get out an enjoy a day on the water. There will be a variety of fishing categories for individual species as well as a special BreadnButter Grand Slam! The BreadnButter Grand Slam will be judged on the longest combination of bream, whiting and flathead. There will be sub-junior, junior and senior male & female categories to encourage family fun. Entry fee is only $20+ registration charge for the general public (which includes $10 day membership) and $10 + registration charge for ANSA QLD members. With $10 from each entrant going to purchase of Alvey gear for our competition prizes, fishing this event is also a way to lend a hand in support of a great Aussie Icon. 17.01.2022 DOUG JENNINGS PARK - CHANGED VEHICLE ACCESS ARRANGEMENTS EFFECTIVE IMMEDIATELY We want all those who visit #DougJenningsPark to enjoy it! From tonight, #GCWA ...is implementing changed vehicle access arrangements to ensure public safety ahead of the large crowds we’re expecting for #AustraliaDay celebrations this Thursday. Queensland Police Service will also be enforcing a traffic management plan to manage traffic congestion for #TheSpit on Australia Day. More information about the traffic plan can be obtained from the Surfers Paradise Police Station on 5657 6888. The park will be closed to vehicles overnight but will remain open for pedestrian access. This is essential to respond to illegal camping and the safety and environmental problems it causes. The new arrangements apply to vehicles only: From tonight, the main entry and exit gates will be closed to vehicles and locked every night between the hours of 7 pm and 6 am. These hours align to most parks managed by the #CityofGoldCoast. An exception applies on Thursday 26 January 2017, at which time the police will implement their Australia Day traffic management plan. So get ready to bring your towel and esky, but remember to park your car in one of the assigned areas to get the most out of your Australia Day in Doug Jennings Park. #GoldCoast #MainBeach #QueenslandPoliceService

Mrs Sippy would cruise past ...private residences, and boats on the water, and if you needed a supply of ice, ice-cream, bait or cool drinks, all you had to do was give them a hoot. It sure was a great idea, but if you are thinking about doing it now don't tell Gold Coast Mayor Tom Tate because he has no desire to let people add atmosphere to the city.
