25.01.2022 Artist Shoso Shimbo is hard at work in the community creating sculptures from our bushfire destroyed houses....itll be fascinating to see how the pieces he picks will evolve on our beach in the coming weeks.
22.01.2022 Many of these lovely little guys at Sea Zen these days but they are hard to film. Our friends at Birds in Backyards compiled a nice video.
22.01.2022 Sometimes you just have to share a guest comment. This one just blew us away today. Thanks so much Ricky (she came all the way from New Zealand!) Rex and Sibylle have put an amazing amount of effort into Sea Zen, offering a truly bespoke experience. They havent forgotten a thing! The minute you step in to Sea Zen, the outside world melts away. Rex was there to cordially invite us in, give us the lowdown on places to eat and places to visit. While the Great Ocean Road is a marvelous experience in itself, Sea Zen is worth the trip all on its own. Thank you Rex, We will be back. Ricky.
21.01.2022 Gosh, more about the decline of our beautiful birds in Australia. Sea Zen now putting up bird nesting boxes and doing our bit to help.

20.01.2022 Cody and Georgia enjoying Sea Zen accommodation. Theres sooo much to do. First we have to run on the sand at the Sep Creek beach, then we have to run on the rocks, then we have to hang out on the balcony and smooze with the rosellas...phew :)
19.01.2022 Sea Zen supports Bush Heritage Australia. Yes, we know it looks just like a mouse but it's one of Australia's precious indigenous species, the Honey Possum. http://www.bushheritage.org.au/
18.01.2022 Beautiful regeneration in our forests and our towns now sprouting and we look forward to habitat for birds and koalas coming back after the bush fire.

17.01.2022 A frequent visitor to Sea Zens banksia tree and grevilleas is the Little Wattlebird. We love the squawks they make. These guys are common to our Separation Creek village but really hard to photograph. So Ive turned to an expert. We recently discovered the beautiful photographs of ornithologist Graeme Chapman. Now retired Graemes website aims to share a wealth of information gained during my lifetime of experience with Australian birds, both as an amateur and a professional. bit.ly/1V8jAYQ

16.01.2022 Its the beginning of southern right whale migration season and we hope to see them passing Sea Zen again soon. Meanwhile Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning (DELWP) is recruiting volunteers to keep watch. (Photo Amy Paton at Logans Beach.)
16.01.2022 And more kangaroos and wallabies visiting Sea Zen this morning. They were having a good feed in the rain.

15.01.2022 We always love the fresh produce from our friends at Otway Coast Regenerative Farmers, each Saturday morning at Apollo Bay, a lovely 30 min drive from Sea Zen.
15.01.2022 Just imagine this beautiful creature under the blue waters as you enjoy the view from the Sea Zen balcony. The Leafy Sea Dragon is one of the best camouflaged sea animals in the world, blending with seaweed. They live in the waters off our coast. (Gorgeous photo by Tracey Jennings.)
14.01.2022 We always knew it and now travel industry folks confirmed it. Wye River was last week voted in the top 10 Most charming beach towns in Australia by Travel Magazine. The online travel magazine invited 50 travel writers and photographers to vote for the Big Ten and Wye River is in! And nearby Lorne and Apollo Bay are included too. Thanks to the folks at Travel Magazine, we couldnt agree more. A stay at Wye River on the best part of the Great Ocean Road is something absolutely special, even in this big land of beach towns. 14.01.2022 Gee, we meet some lovely and interesting guests at Sea Zen. Today we had a lovely afternoon with current guest Mark, who introduced us to the Japanese instrument called the Shakuhachi, a type of flute made of a beautiful piece of golden knobbly bamboo. It was originally introduced from China into Japan in the 8th century. Traditionally made of bamboo, nowadays you can also get them in wood. The sound is sweet and very meditative. The Shakuhachi is used by the Zen Buddhist monks in the practice of suizen (blowing meditation). Mark has been playing for 16 years and looks forward to his first trip to Japan next month. Hes enjoying the soft intro to the country at Sea Zen. Thanks so much for showing us this beautiful instrument and its sounds, Mark

12.01.2022 First rain, then wind, then snow. Is this really the Otways? Not far from Sea Zen this is what the countryside looks like. But now bathed in perfect sunshine....beautiful.
11.01.2022 John Steinbeck in his lovely book "Travels with Charley-In Search of America" said, What good is the warmth of summer, without the cold of winter to give it sweetness? Both John and Charley (the poodle) would have been very welcome at Sea Zen this winter by our roaring wood fire.
11.01.2022 You are welcome at Sea Zen Buddy!! Especially with that cool retro suitcase.
10.01.2022 An amazing Truffle hunt and cooking day at Wongarra Farm last week with owner Roderick Poole and French Chef Romu. A dream come true without having to fly to France!
10.01.2022 Today is World Migratory Bird Day. Each year the campaign has a theme and this year its "Stop the Illegal Killing, Taking and Trade of Migratory Birds". Our Great Ocean Road region is home to thousands of migratory birds, shorebirds and seabirds, including albatrosses, petrels and mutton-bird (short-tailed shear-water). Many of these birds fly over 30,000km to Asia, Russia and Alaska. Lets give them a safe haven while they are with us.
09.01.2022 Gorgeous autumn sky from Sea Zen balcony.
09.01.2022 Gorgeous autumn colors now bursting throughout Otways. Were having the warmest Indian Summer in years on our coast.
08.01.2022 We didn't have snow in Wye River but this is what the back of the nearby town, Lorne, looked like a few days ago. An icy wonderland. We are keeping warm by the wood fire and enjoying a few glasses of red as we look out at a raging ocean.
08.01.2022 We missed World Penguin Day in April but taking a moment to celebrate these gorgeous guys today. Emperor penguins in Antarctica, photo by Nat Geo.

07.01.2022 We saw this black beauty sailing past Sea Zen this afternoon. Her name is "Notorious", a replica fifteenth century caravel. The ship took ten years to build, made entirely from reclaimed Monterey Cypress timber, launched off Port Fairy, Victoria, Australia in Feb 2011. Shes open to visitors over the weekend at Apollo Bay.
07.01.2022 We adore Parisian style and taking your companion animal where ever you want, just like at Sea Zen. This is Caramel, le chat, keeping a client company at Le Louix IX in Paris, 1988. (Photo James L. Stanfield, Nat Geo Creative.)
06.01.2022 This year the Lorne Sculpture exhibition folks have lent 2 works to be shown at Wye River/Separation Creek to support our villages through the post bushfire time.
