22.01.2022 A little project for " Work Experience Guy " today Displaying my collection of old horse shoes found on the farm so far

11.01.2022 So this happened today The little mule has never been a favourite to this ol boy. It brings his food everyday and comes into his yard a few times a week to collect his manure. The issue has been when its in his yard, he would run to the far end and drop his head into the corner and shutdown. Didn't matter how slow you went etc. So I would have to wander over and do focus work to get him to turn and look at me and then I could approach him to led him away to what he perceive...s to be " safety " rinse and repeat everytime, bit like ground hogs day..well most of the approach work with him has been like Ground hogs day. Slowly but surely he is coming around..and it only takes a couple of minutes now for him to drop his head and lick his lips and BREATHE. So today after leading him once more off to safety from the ol mule.. he came back and did this. See more

10.01.2022 IT DEPENDS... When giving horse advice here on social media, it can be difficult to do, because there really is no right or wrong answer. It really depends on a... lot of things that most often aren’t communicated in the question. It could be horse things, things like how has this horse acted every day leading up till now. It could be the expression on his face right before the thing you asked the question about. It could be human related. Like how is your relationship with your father? (believe it or not this will have a lot to do with the way you interact with not only horses, but the world at large) It could be what was your inner dialogue and energy during this interaction with your horse? There are so many factors involved, and as I said , there’s very few things you should never do, it depends on you, the horse, your experience, your knowledge of this particular horse etc. Case in point. I took this video last week at the show we went to in Idaho. This is Robyns 4 year old stallion Rey, who is new to us.Before we got him, he was just a number , not a family member, and tends to not be terribly interactive but is the sweetest horse I’ve been around. We only had him 5 days before we left for the show, and at the show spent quite a bit of time just hanging with him in his stall, taking him out to hand graze, and being around him without asking for anything. This particular day I was going to saddle him and ride, but after I put the halter on I decided to sit on a bucket in the open doorway of the stall and just hang with him for a bit. After a while he came over and sniffed me, then rested him head on my shoulder and had a nap. Do I recommend everyone let their 4 year old stallion rest their head on their shoulder and have a nap. Definitely not. Do I think it was helpful in this case in building relationship? Sure do.

09.01.2022 Every horse is different and it can take some time for them to settle. I have one here at the moment that has been through 6 owners in 12mths ... no wonder he is a little frazzled to say the least.

01.01.2022 Are you missing the missing link in your horses hind end issues? Negative Plantar Angles (NPA) are the most common hind hoof conformation! and yet there are so... often missed. Why? Because horses with this conformation most often have a concurrent compensatory posture which disguises how broken back the hoof pastern axis is. NPA has been linked to pathology all the way up the hind limb and into the trunk of the horse, very often these pathologies are being treated without resolution of the disguised NPA and concurrent postural abnormality. Sticky plasters on symptoms! Research at the moment is questioning whether the NPA or the other pathologies are primary at all! Non the less, with NPA and the higher pathologies, the feet cant get better because of the posture and the pathologies cycle, because of the posture. This posture initiates locomotive musculature in stabilisation and causes joints to bare load as they are not intended to do so. Breaking the cycle is a multi-professional effort with resolution of the posture as a focus and farriery can have a direct effect on this. Further reading in the captions. Stay tuned for my upcoming Videocast looking in depth at the causes of abnormal compensatory posture.
