25.01.2022 The Diabolical Toebeans De Bork wants to know what your pet's holiday nickname is? Let us know in the comments below! We cannot wait to hear them!

24.01.2022 There's only a few days left until the last day of our Homeless Pet's Christmas Appeal! This year, we set an ambitious goal of raising $50,00 to not only help us rescue and rehabilitate as many animals in need as possible but to also ensure that we can continue to work with the community to keep pets in homes and families together. We're still a long way off that goal, but what we have raised together with our incredible supporters has been amazing and we are so thankful to ...have had you beside us every step of the way through this amazing journey! If you believe that all animals deserve a loving home, and that all families should include the love of a pet, then please, give generously this Christmas and spread the word over the next few days so that we can continue to do everything we can for our companion animals and their owners to keep families together. Donate here: mycau.se/scar #SCARXmasAppeal #donate #animalshelter #givethegiftofhope #makeadifference Proudly sponsored by O'Brien Icehouse! Thank you for your support!

23.01.2022 It’s the end of another crazy week here at SCAR and in the last two weeks alone we’ve had 42 cats and kittens in need of a second chance come through our shelter doors! That’s 42 cat’s who’ve ALL received a vet check-up, have been desexed, microchipped, vaccinated and flea/worm treated. And that’s just the standard vet care some of these animals have come in with cat flu, or other illnesses, some that have needed extra procedures such as dentals/ blood tests/ lump removals ...and several come in with broken bones after sustaining nasty injuries, with many requiring ongoing treatments. Your generous support helps us to continue rescuing and caring for our animals in need. That’s why we’re bringing back our Five Dollar Fridays! $5 doesn't sound like it could do much, but the smallest acts of kindness can make the biggest difference to those in need. Donate Today: https://donate.mycause.com.au/charity/25182 All donations over $2 are tax deductible! 22.01.2022 ~* Bringing Families Together Tilly's Story *~ Looking at Matilda, or Tilly as she goes by now, you wouldn’t even recognise her as the same dog that the SCAR team met earlier in the year when she entered our care. Back then, this sweet little senior dog showed all the signs of being horribly neglected Her coat was so severally matted that we had to very slowly shear it off in one big piece. She had huge pieces of faeces stuck in her fur around her face and multiple areas... on her body. She had a terrible infection around her eyes and bottom and she also had a terribly painful tooth root abscess due to her badly rotten teeth going untreated for so long. If this wasn’t heartbreaking enough, while our team assessed and treated little Tilly’s injuries, all this terrified little dog wanted was to cuddle with each member of our and show us love. It was as if she knew that we weren’t there to harm her and were simply there to make her feel better and so she wanted to get as close to that unfamiliar comfort as she could and soak it up. After receiving significant treatment for her injuries and lots of TLC, little Tilly went off to foster care where she began to relearn what it is to be a dog once more. She learnt the joys of running freely without being weighed down by her own fur. She enjoyed the love and comfort of a new home that spoiled her with attention and cuddles. And slowly this sweet little girl began to thrive again. Trish and her family met Tilly in April this year. Tilly was initially terrified to leave the safety of her foster home and the security it had brought her when she needed it most. But slowly, with lots of patience and time, Tilly began to warm up to her new family, following her new dad everywhere he goes and enjoying lots of cuddles with Trish. Her short hair has now grown back as scruffy as can be and Tilly is completely unrecognisable as the dog she once was. Instead, we now know recognise her only for that sweet Tilly smile that we are so happy to see. At SCAR, we live for the moments where we can transform an animal’s life like little Tilly’s. Where the trauma and pain of their past life is replaced with a loving home and a big happy puppy smile. Transformations like this just would not be possible without the help of our amazing supporters so thank you for helping us bring families like Tilly’s together! 21.01.2022 Beautiful Lucy was surrendered to SCAR late last week with a story that many may find hard to read. Her previous owner contacted us desperately seeking our help for poor Lucy. When Lucy's owner had to move homes due to unforeseen circumstances and couldn't take Lucy with her she rehomed her to someone that she trusted would look after Lucy. Unbeknownst to her, these new owners saw Lucy as nothing but a means to make some money and Lucy’s life became an endless cycle of const...ant breeding. 5 years later Lucy's original owner received a text to say that they needed to give Lucy back to her and if she didn't take her back then they would 'dispose' of her with a bullet! So her original owner picked her up at once and was devastated to see how tired and sad her old friend looked. Unable to keep Lucy with her once more but determined to give her the loving home she deserved, her previous owner reached out to SCAR and we took Lucy into our care. The signs of being overbred are clear when you look at Lucy but she will be desexed at SCAR shortly to avoid her having litters ever again! SCAR has also created a plan for Lucy to ensure that she has no other medical issues and will be doing blood tests, x-rays and other tests. Lucy deserves to live a life without fear or pain, and we will do whatever it takes to ensure that she gets that life. Despite her past, Lucy is the friendliest dog, she wags her tail and looks at everyone around her with such love and trust. She has not been broken by what has been done to her, but she still needs a lot of care to help her on her way. If you are able to, please support SCAR today by donating via the link below so that we can help Lucy find her second chance. https://donate.mycause.com.au/charity/25182 #donate #secondchance www.secondchanceanimalrescue.com.au ... because they all deserve one!

10.01.2022 We are always so happy to hear from our fantastic community partners as to how the SCAR Free Pet Food Pantry helps to bring relief to our community in times of hardship. We received this beautiful letter from Chris from the Sunbury Winter Shelter at CareWorks SunRanges Inc and this line sums up exactly why we do what we do "The gift of pet food gave our community great relief as their pets are in some cases their family and they often feed their pets first before feeding t...hemselves" At SCAR, we believe no one should have to choose between feeding themselves and feeding their pets. We strive to keep families together especially during these extremely difficult times, but we can’t do this alone! So THANK YOU, to Sunbury Winter Shelter and CareWorks SunRanges Inc and to the MANY wonderful community partners who have worked tirelessly with us throughout the year to distribute donations of pet food to those in need. Without your generous help, so many people would still be struggling. If you run a community program and you would like to partner with us in the new year to help distribute pet food to those in need, then please contact our shelter on 0393570834 or email our outreach team at [email protected]. Help us keep this vital program running for those who need it most, by donating to our Homeless Pet’s Christmas Appeal: mycau.se/scar More information on the SCAR Free Pet Food Pantry here: https://secondchanceanimalrescue.com.au//scar-pet-food-pa/ www.secondchanceanimalrescue.com.au ...because they all deserve one!

03.01.2022 Thank you to everyone who donated to the care of our beloved Tiny Tim! We thought we’d show you just how much those donations have already started to change Tiny Tim’s little world for the better! While still very much in recovery from his cat flu, Tim is a little bundle of non-stop, on the go energy! He spends his days endlessly climbing the walls of his little cat enclosure, exploring and adventuring. He zooms across the floor as fast as his tiny legs will carry him and b...ats his toys and scrunched up paper around like a teeny tiny adorable soccer player! And that purring machine? Even when he’s running around playing, that purr is like a constant sweet little motor. His meow may still be a bit of a squeak, and he still has quite a bit of healing to do, but thanks to your kind and generous donations Tiny Tim is so much closer to the happy and loving home that he deserves!
