24.01.2022 Such big smiles at playgroup!

24.01.2022 I'm amazed at the progress the children are making in their literacy studies. We use the Jolly Phonics curriculum combined with Montessori principles and I'm finding it very successful and a joy to teach.

24.01.2022 The costume corner is always such a buzz of activity! Great sharing and collaborative play.

23.01.2022 A little look at our birthday tradition at Secret Garden Playgroup. If your birthday falls on a playgroup day you get to wear the birthday crown and have a story told about the day you came into your family

23.01.2022 We have some great new resources in the works for term 4 including a new slackline! These are great for coordination, balance and core strength. All of the funds from our term 3 enrolments have been put back into the playgroup to cover new resources and learning materials.

22.01.2022 Here is a great resource to use at home - A spotify playlist covering all the Jolly Phonics letter and diagraph sounds. https://open.spotify.com/playlist/095WVvwnKU6CQI1NcKkffL You can also find accompanying videos on YouTube that show the actions that go along with the songs.

20.01.2022 We love STEM learning in our home. I've heard a lot about the crates from Kiwi Co and with my 7 year old about to turn 8 we're going to gift her a 6 month subscription to trial the boxes. After purchasing I was given a $10 off voucher and thought I would share it here in case anyone could use it. I hope everyone is having a relaxing Sunday x

20.01.2022 Another beautiful day at playgroup. Lots of learning, creating and crafting. Today our craft table was laden with goodies and was treaded as 'loose parts' play. So many unexpected creations.

18.01.2022 A pile of good books by a warm fire... Does it get any better?! Today's session was a wet and windy one, so we made sure the fire was well stacked. It's the heart of the group on a cold day.

17.01.2022 We had some very busy little hands today at playgroup! The Christmas themed numeracy and literacy worksheets were quite popular.

13.01.2022 With only 2 weeks left of the term we're now taking expressions of interest for term 1 2021. Please send us a pm if you are interested. We expect to have 6 or 7 places to offer in each of our sessions.

13.01.2022 Today we set up one of our mini rooms with extra wooden blocks of all shapes and sizes. These two put them to very good use!

12.01.2022 Every week our children are offered different printed learning materials. I love watching the parents work alongside their children as they complete the tasks. This work supports the additional phonics and numeracy lessons we cover.

10.01.2022 This is what happens when you leave age/stage appropriate learning resources freely accessible: self initiated learning. It is far more meaningful for them and has a better retention rate. These blocks are great for your common CVC words.

09.01.2022 As a rule of thumb I have a list of learning objectives for each session, but the day flows according to what the children need and when. I find a lot of our learning happens outside or by the fire. I notice a natural still point in the day and swoop in with some learning resources.

08.01.2022 Exciting news! For term 4 we will have 2 educators for both our Monday and Tuesday group! Ginny, a qualified Early Childhood teacher, will be helping me run the sessions and deliver our curriculum. I have known Ginny for over 3 years and she is full of energy and wonderful with children. I can't wait to see what she brings to our playgroup

04.01.2022 Another glorious day spent with our playgroup family. Lots of giggles, laughter, sharing and learning.

03.01.2022 https://topnotchteaching.com/litera/how-to-teach-cvc-words/ Here are some fun ideas for teaching CVC (consonant - vowel - consonant) words to your child. We use many, if not all, of these at Secret Garden Playgroup in every session.

02.01.2022 The outdoor play space at our new Stirling location is truly amazing. So many adventures, games and challenges embarked on each day. My 3 year old daughter sleeps so well after our Secret Garden days!

02.01.2022 Be warned Tuesday group! Things are going to get messy in tomorrow's session! Today we experimented with primary and secondary colours. Finger painting quickly turned to foot painting, which in turn became body painting. So much fun!

02.01.2022 Is there anything better than self driven learning?
