25.01.2022 OMGEEEEEEEE!!!! Do you know that this means?!! Not only can we...... get our mini members out to all our local amazing parks, once the rain eases of course! visit the local Zoos again check out all the movies at the cinema that we have missed, it also means that... SECRET HARBOUR PLAYGROUP CAN RE-START!!! This announcement means the busy little bees that make up our committee will be coming up with a plan, along side PlaygroupWA, to get Playgroup up and running as soon as possible while at the same time making sure all our members, mini and mighty, are safe and protected. We will be looking to all our members of all shapes and sizes, to help and support the committee with any actions we will put in place. From helping with the smooth running of the sessions, to ensuring all equipment used is properly sanitised and packed away, we will need everyones support. We are so excited to open up! Not only to see everyone again but for everyone to see all our new awesome equipment!!! Looking forward to seeing everyone soon!!

25.01.2022 This is why Playgroup is so important for our pre-schoolers. Not only do they make awesome friendship bonds, but they begin to experience some of the activities they will be taking part in at school. Mat time is an important part of school and many kids struggle with the ability to sit still on a mat for any period of time.... So at Secret Harbour Playgroup, we encourage story time. Either by the session leader or one of the other lovely grown ups, story time gives the opportunity for the kids to sit and enjoy a short amount of mat time as well as taking part in reading a story, which is also so so important for their development. It also gives the other grown ups in the room time to tidy up some of the equipment not being played with and get ready for Morning Tea. As a purely volunteer based playgroup, we need all our grown up members to chip in and help with the smooth running of the sessions and make it the awesome place it is!

24.01.2022 Fancy going on a Bear Hunt?! or spread the love with a rainbow?! People all over Australia are creating Rainbow trails and Bear hunts in their suburbs to help with the negative impacts of social isolation, especially felt by our mini ones. ... Fresh air and exercise is still vitality important at this time so help make it fun for everyone by adding a bear in your front yard or front windows or paint a rainbow for the mini ones to find! Let us know where you find Bears and Rainbows in our beautiful suburb and share your own and together we can make social distancing bear-able for everyone

23.01.2022 I love this!! Especially perfect for those with grandparents who they cant see as often as they are used to. Hell, I would melt if one of my mini friends mailed me a hug!!

23.01.2022 Who doesnt love a pillow fort! And you cant go wrong with IKEA pictorial instructions!

22.01.2022 Helllllloooooo Weekend! Hope all our members are making the most of the weekend and this on-again off-again rain! We have now received COVID related updates from PGWA and the City of Rockingham in regards to how we can open our doors again for all our eager members!... At this stage, with only a few weeks left of term 2, we have decided to delay our opening till Term 3. This gives the committee enough time to develop the whozimee whatzitz and jibbery jobbies that we need to make sure everyone is safe and protected. These include: Cleaning schedules that all our Mighty members will need to help with, Possible online booking system which will allow us to easily update the Council of who has attended our sessions and when. New crafts that reduce possible transmissions. New morning tea time that will require all mini members to have their own snack box and water bottle. Do you have any concerns in returning to Secret Harbour Playgroup? Please tell us so we can make sure its covered. Any suggestions to help? Seen some innovative ways of making sure everyone is safe and happy? Please share! And we will see you all soon

22.01.2022 Many parents may be out there at the moment wishing they had the support of a playgroup family We are thinking of starting a support group for parents 0-5 to help through this time. Let us know if youd be interested.

21.01.2022 There have been some obvious cancellations of big events but the saddest ones have been the birthday parties of our mini members . But never fear dear members, we know just what to do! Because they are still important, there is another way to celebrate their birthday... Its the Birthday Parade!! If you know one of your little mates is having a birthday soon, make up some Happy Birthday Banners and get your parents to do a drive by with your other friends! Wave your banners and sing HAPPY BIRTHDAY at the top of your lungs so your friend will know you are still thinking of them on their special day. Together we can still make things fun and keep up the social distancing. Please share with us your birthday parade! And if its your birthday soon... HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!

20.01.2022 Role playing is just one of the popular playtime activities many children enjoy. Why is it so important? Amongst other things, it allows children to act out and make sense of real-life situations and encourages children to empathizes: by taking on the role of character teaches children an understanding of different perspectives.... And with our new doctors kits, tool boxes and extended home equipment, our mini members will only be limited by their own imagination!

20.01.2022 Hello to all our members, both mighty and mini! This should be the exciting start to Term 2 with the reveal of our awesome new equipment thanks to the hard work of our committee members and an amazing grant from LotteryWest and Playgroup WA. But while certain government restrictions are lifting, we are still unable to open our doors to welcome back our mini members with open arms. ... Due to the size of our sessions, we are still too big for the 10 person limit. And the sharing of equipment is still restricted due to sanitary implications. And we can hardly expect our mini ones to come back to playgroup and not touch every single piece of our new awesome equipment!! We also rent our space through the City of Rockingham so we are constrained by their regulations of opening community spaces as well. So at this stage our doors remain closed. But this does not mean we are not still here!! We will still be posting all sorts of goodies right here on our SHPG Facebook page. If you joined us in Term 1 and paid all your fees and insurances, make sure you are a member of our private page so you get access to all the crafty ideas coming through and have the opportunity to opt into picking up a craft pack to keep your mini ones entertained. www.facebook.com/groups/secretharbourplaygroup We may not be able to get together officially but that doesnt mean you cant get together with your playgroup pals. With certain restrictions being eased, why not message your playgroup friends and arrange a mini get together. We may not be able to use playgrounds yet but there are some beautiful places to meet in our local area. From forests to beaches and everywhere in between, there will be the perfect spot for you and your friends to meet. Check out our next post for some ideas! Do you already have a favourite spot? Share in the comments below so everyone can enjoy our amazing local outdoors.

20.01.2022 Have you all been taking part in the Containers for Change program? Either taking your containers in to your local centre for your refund or donating the containers to a local organisation? (Ours go to Secret Harbour Primary School!) But did you know there are many more things that can be recycled but not in your council yellow bin?... Naragebup - Rockingham Regional Environment Centre have an extensive recycling section that recycles all the odd bits that would otherwise go into landfill. Have a look at the pictures and see how much you can recycle while also enjoying a day at the centre! There’s so much to see and take in. Good habits need to start young, so get your mini ones involved now so it will be second nature to them. #secretharbourplaygroup #recycle #containersforchangewa #naragebup

19.01.2022 If you have any items that can be of help, let us know by comment below or DM and we can help get it to them

19.01.2022 Needing something crafty to do but dont know what? Street Hassle are here to help you out!

19.01.2022 Did you know that 1 in 5 new mums and 1 in 10 new dads experience perinatal depression and anxiety? This translates to 7,000 parents every year in WA and 100,00...0 within Australia. There is still a great deal of stigma attached to perinatal and anxiety depression, which may be preventing new families from seeking the support they so desperately need. Throughout PANDA Week let's help spread awareness on this issue and help new parents who are struggling to know it is OK to reach out and ask for help.

17.01.2022 New restrictions have been announced today Parks and playgrounds are now a no-go zone. So we all need to find new ways to exercise our mini jumping beans. ... Joe Wicks from The Body Coach in the UK is helping parents all over the world with this conundrum. He has begun live streaming 30 minute kid focused workouts Monday - Friday and everyone is raving about them! Luckily we dont have to wait till 4pm to watch. All his videos are saved on his YouTube page so you can access them whenever you want. Check them all out here and let us know what you think https://www.youtube.com/user/thebodycoach1

15.01.2022 Anyone got any spare packing boxes??!!

15.01.2022 What an amazing few weeks back! So much fun!! We are overwhelmed by the interest in joining us, and we wish we would be able to accommodate you all! As you have probably seen the state government has, yet again, decided to postpone the opening to phase5. This means we are still unable to provide triall sessions or accept new members as were at capacity.... Should you, or someone you know, want to assist us by being a session leader, we.would be able to open another session and welcome more members. PM if interested. Thanks to all our members for the amazing support in the opening weeks.

15.01.2022 ***Update on Returning*** Hello to all our members and friends! At the moment, our update is that there is no update. At this stage, we are unable to return as our sessions are larger than 20 people and we use shared equipment. We are waiting for Playgroup WA to confirm our return. ... But this doesnt mean nothing is happening! We are working on a triumphant return!! Weve been unpacking, repacking, labelling and putting away all our awesome new equipment thanks to the Playgroup WA and Lottery West Grant. And yes there *might* have been some playing with some of the toys. Have to check them out and make sure they are good enough for our mini members! So keep your eyes on our posts to know when we have a final opening date so you can mark it in your calendars and be ready to play!

14.01.2022 Whats changed with COVID-19? There are a few changes we have made to help look after the health of our members during our sessions. We have a variety of cleaning methods available for the huge variety of equipment we have. ... The newest edition is this commercial grade disinfectant from Nature Direct. It is less toxic than other household cleaners and therefore less harmful to users which is important when considering the health of our mini members. But it is also an commercial grade disinfectant and kills 99.9% of common germs* including Staphylococcus, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Salmonella enterica and E.coli. Also available is hand sanitiser, disinfectant wipes, and multi surface cleaner with disposable cloths. So no matter what your cleaning preference is, we have something for everyone. #cleaning #covidcleaning #secretharbourplaygroup #minimembers #staysafe #stayhealthy

13.01.2022 Need something to do this afternoon? Even if fits raining?!

11.01.2022 Good for the kids! But I can also see this being hilarious for drunk adults!!

11.01.2022 As we face this uncertainty and may be spending much more alone time with our babes than we usually plan for... keep in mind these are opportunities to create memories we would otherwise would not have had the chance to do with the busy lives we usually lead. If we are told to stay home, stay away from others, we, as parents have been given a gift to nurture and just be with our most loved without the pressures of the world demanding our heads be elsewhere. If a lockdown hap...pens enjoy the moment with your babes... if its too much reach out to the rest of us who are doing the same. We are parents, we are invincible. Life had taught us that already! Lets be in the moment, take our own time outs when required ( for sanity reasons), and and come out of this as both better parents and stronger people as well. Reach out if you need. We are in this together Stay healthy our babes need us as do is all!! See more

10.01.2022 Wed like to invite our members and their families to a non-official playgroup catch up before we can finally reopen Hope you can make it to the party in the park.

10.01.2022 Learning to share can be a very hard concept for a mini one to grasp, especially if they are the only mini one in the house. But thats where Secret Harbour Playgroup can help https://playgroupwa.com.au/tips-to-help-toddlers-to-share/

09.01.2022 While our playgroup is aimed at PreSchool 0-5 year olds, many of our mini members have big brothers or sisters home at the moment who would normally be at school. ABC Education are working on a new programme of educational programs to be aired via their ABC Me channel. The final schedule should ready to view on the 8th April and will support primary ages in the morning to secondary ages in the afternoon.... Check out the link below for more information

08.01.2022 To our amazing community! We have had such an amazing amount of interest in our playgroup and we are so excited to be able to open up again. However, we did receive some bad news with the State government not going ahead with phase 5 of restrictions. This mean we are still tied down by the 2sqm rule.... This means, currently both our sessions are AT CAPACITY and we are unable to have people come in for a triall session at this stage. If you are still interested in joining us, please message us and put your name down and we will contact you as soon as the restrictions are lifted. We thank you all for your support and interest and hope to see you soon
