22.01.2022 Comfort Food Being housebound with social distancing restrictions has meant a quiet Easter for most of us. It only takes a few minutes of watching the news to feel total dismay at the impact of Covid 19 around the world or to become completely overwhelmed with fear or despair that we will personally experience sickness, loss of a loved one or financial hardship. But you only have to take a quick glance at what is happening at a local level to feel some sense of renewe...d hope in humanity. The (quiet) streets are filled with teddy bear hunts, community aid and support groups are popping up everywhere, home growing vegetables has become commonplace, road rage has vanished and suddenly we all seem to have a little more time for making, creating and sustaining ourselves. So here is some inspiration for cooking at home: Chocolate, Orange, Hot Crossed Bun bread and butter pudding. Chocolate custard infused with @cointreau and orange zest. Rich, decadent and comforting, it is best shared. In fact, double the recipe and give one pudding to someone who really needs it. Lets keep cultivating a strong community spirit, that lives long after this lame Coronavirus does. Recipe: http://www.secretsuppers.com//chocolate-orange-hot-crossed

16.01.2022 Australia has enough food, enough toilet paper and enough medication for everyone. Having worked with the growers and farmers of Western Australia, I can confidently say that there is ENOUGH to sustain our own population.... but when people are greedy, self driven and take more than they need, it leaves others without. Freezers have sold out at JB Hifi across the state, there is now a shortage of Ventolin puffers and shelves remain empty at supermarkets. Empty shelves drive f...ear and panic because suddenly we feel like there isnt enough... Having also worked in the healthcare system, I can confirm that what we DO NOT have enough of is hospital beds, critical care staff and ventilators to manage a pandemic outbreak. There were still people saying, as early as Monday that "this will all blow over" or "I am young so I will be ok". This is also self centred thinking at a time where we need, more than ever, to be acting for the good of the greater community and not just ourselves. We do not live in a vaccuum. Our actions now, directly affect everyone else and the smallest decision, can have a massive impact. This is a time for community centred thinking and taking critical steps. We are so blessed to live in a country where quality food is always readily available. So whilst our truck drivers and food suppliers work over time to keep up with demand and our healthcare workers prepare for battle, the most gracious thing we can do is limit social contact and buy only what we need.

16.01.2022 An ode to change Our Children of the 80s immersive dinner was a theatrical, musical show themed around growing up in the 80s. The creative team came up with a segment about how this generation of parents was the first, in which having two working parents was commonplace. Transitioning from the traditional "1950s" housewife, mothers of children of the 80s juggled both the house keeping duties as well as work. This affected the evolution of food as demand for convenience ...foods, such as microwave ready meals, cup noodles and frozen foods increased. We served a tongue in cheek main meal at this event of a microwave style meal with 80s classics chicken kiev and duchess mashed potatoes. Industrialisation and globalisation of food production peaked in the 70s and 80s to support a much busier family life and has continued since. Looking back at history and how it has influenced food trends seems so relevant in these times of radical and sudden change. I wonder, when we look back in 30-40 years time, how the global Covid 19 pandemic will have influenced how and what we eat?? Doing large scale events is unlikely for at least the next 12 months. Secret suppers may never do a production to the scale of children of the 80s again and this is 100% okay..... Our philosphy and mission has always been to connect people with what is on their plate, raising conciousness about where our food comes from to support sustainable and renewable food production practices. Last month, as our supermarket shelves were suddenly bare of items we took for granted and panic buying ensued, western civilizations were abruptly faced with a reality that this generation never contemplated was possible. WHAT IF WE RUN OUT OF FOOD?! And suddenly, we started to become more conscious of where our supply was coming from and what humanitys true vulnerabilities are. There is a reason that some spiritual gurus are calling this time, the "Great Awakening". So stay tuned for the next iteration of our Secret Suppers movement, as we use our platform and skills to share a philosophy on how we choose to eat can help solve humanitys biggest crisis, Climate Change. @byronbearfist

We dont think this delicious dish has ever really gone out of fashion! Over 60% of tickets have been sold to our @childrenofthe80s.immersive show! 06.01.2022 The Bubblegum bar at our Children of the 80s immersive dinner that almost didnt happen... A 3.5 month license approval period, last minute renege of the person building the installation, followed by a car accident on bump in day of our hero @theinventorshub who came up with a last minute build alternative. Kudos to the team at @thatcocktailguy who stepped up to sort out our pop up Bubblegum themed bar under pretty tight time constraints as well as our own front of house team who came in early and worked tirelessly to set the space up.
