19.01.2022 Private security guards have been blamed for not following infection protocols and were among the first to be infected, leading to the virus being spread into the community. According to a transcript of an audio recording of the meeting, Mr Grainger said it was absolutely Victoria Polices preference that private security be the front line with guests. It was my view that Victoria Police should be present onsite at hotels 24/7, and that perimeter or proximate patrol was no...t adequate, Ms Febey said. I considered that the work of security should be under the direction of authorised officers, with Victoria Police there to oversee and manage escalation. Representatives from Victoria Police are due to give evidence at the inquiry next week. 19.01.2022 Two Los Angeles police officers are in a critical condition after being shot in what police are calling an ambush. Video of the incident shows a figure approach the officers vehicle, before opening fire and running away. Los Angeles Sheriff Alex Villanueva called the act "cowardly". The suspect remains at large. Almost 40 US police officers were killed in the line of duty in 2020, FBI statistics show - eight of them were victims of an ambush. Protesters shouted anti-police s...logans and blocked the entrance to the emergency room where the two officers are being treated, police and witnesses said. Two people were arrested, including a journalist who police said tried to interfere with the arrest of the other detainee and did not identify herself as a member of the press. Rachel Chami was arrested in Double Bay after police found 18.5 grams of cocaine underneath carpet in the drivers footwell. She had been employed as a flight attendant for Emirates when she was caught dealing cocaine in Sydneys eastern suburbs. 13.01.2022 A man linked to a secretive fight club that was at the centre of a murder probe in Sydney is fighting for life after a double shooting. Albert Rick Difloriano, 55, was found inside a Lewisham home on Friday afternoon with a gunshot wound to the head. Police believe the injury was self-inflicted but miraculously, Difloriano is still alive. He is in a serious condition at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital. Police sources said Difloriano was in an argument with another man on Henry S...t earlier in the afternoon. It is alleged Difloriano was present when the other man, aged in his 30s, was shot but they are still trying to piece together exactly what happened. The younger man died on the way to hospital. A woman who was a witness to the shooting on Henry St was led by police from the scene on Friday afternoon with paper bags over her hands.Investigators suspect Difloriano then left the scene and returned to his home on Victoria St before turning the gun on himself. Difloriano was a founding member of St Michael Fight Club in the Inner-West when it was embroiled in a Homicide Squad probe in 2016.At the time, the fight club boasted a membership of 20-30 people and had figures like Jeff Fenech and ex-footballer Willie Mason attending its fight nights. When it was founded, most members shared Italian heritage and an interest in Muay Thai boxing.Difloriano was dragged before the NSW Crime Commission in 2016 and asked questions about the fight club after a fellow member, Antonio Bagnato, emerged as a suspect in a shooting in Leichhardt.Difloriano was charged with giving misleading evidence about his knowledge of the fight club, which had a gym in Lewisham, but pleaded not guilty to the offence. Bagnato ended up in Thailand, where he was convicted over the murder of Hells Angels bikie Wayne Schneider. Bagnato, who is also the subject of an arrest warrant for murder in NSW, was sentenced to death in 2017 but the penalty was significantly reduced on appeal. See more

10.01.2022 A man is dead and ten people have been injured after a massive brawl broke out in a quiet Brisbane suburb on Sunday night. Police were called to break up the horrific scene at OCallaghan Park in Zillmere at 5.30pm, after reports that two groups of African youths attacked each other with baseball bats and knives. A man in his 20s has died from a fatal wounding while 10 people were injured, Two of those people are critical, while another two were in a serious condition. Poli...ce have called for the community to remain calm as they continue their investigations.In the aftermath of the brawl, police were posted to a number of Brisbane hospitals over fears of further unrest. Its understood a fight broke out at the Royal Brisbane and Womens Hospital later in the evening, where two people remain fighting for life. Detective Superintendent Tony Fleming said the incident appeared to be retribution for another incident in western Brisbane earlier in the week. We found multiple victims spread across a large distance in the park. This posed a significant challenge to paramedics, there were numerous victims and it was a multi-injury incident. Dr Rashford said the injured were dispersed to multiple hospitals across Brisbane to ensure they could get the care they required. The football club that calls OCallaghan Park its home, North Star FC, last night issued a statement on the incident, confirming they would close while police carried out the investigation. Unfortunately a non-football related incident has occurred in the OCallaghan Park precinct this evening where serious injuries have been sustained, the club wrote in a statement on Facebook on Sunday night.
