25.01.2022 This is the choice for year 7/8 students at Nambucca Heads High School every second Tuesday when the Special Religious Education (SRE) classes are conducted. A concerned parent of one student has raised questions about the school's practice of making kids who choose to opt out of SRE sit outside on the cement. "It was raining this week and absolutely freezing," they said.... "Even in Summer, we had some really hot 40 degree days and they're sitting under a hot tin roof. "It's like a punishment. I think it's horrible in this day and age."

22.01.2022 Fiona Patten MP has introduced a Bill to end religious discrimination in the hiring of school counsellors in Victorian public schools. In 2014, The High Court upheld a challenge to the National School Chaplaincy Program, ruling the law used to maintain Commonwealth funding for chaplains is unconstitutional. To circumvent the ruling, the Commonwealth and state government entered into a Project Agreement, allowing religious organisations to hire chaplains on behalf of public sc...hools. Qualified psychologists and youth workers cannot be hired as public school chaplains if they are not religious. In fact, if they are not Christian. This flies in the face of Victorian equal opportunity law. There is no place for religious discrimination in school staffing, just like there is no place for religious discrimination in the school yard. To put a stop to this, I have introduced a Bill to end religious discrimination in the hiring of counsellors in the Victorian public school system. The problems our children face are wide-ranging and complex they deserve the most qualified and competent counsellors available. See more

22.01.2022 Public school principals are pushing to scrap Special Religious Education classes from government high schools as new figures reveal as few as 5 per cent of students at some Sydney high schools are attending scripture lessons.

18.01.2022 Here is the Hillsong church Shine program video described within Chrys Stevenson’s May 2014 Big Smoke article: https://www.thebigsmoke.com.au//send-clowns-guidelines-wo/

15.01.2022 Two things are clear. In federally funded chaplain employers’ own words, the National School Chaplaincy Program is explicitly religious in nature, and in the 2018 federal budget, the National School Chaplaincy Program was granted eternal life, or extended on a permanent basis as Scott Morrison put it in his 2018 budget speech. $1,043,000,000 has now been expended by or committed to the exclusively religious National School Chaplaincy Program. To accommodate its ‘permanent basis’, this billion-dollar behemoth is now stuck in a federal funding feedback loop, receiving an annual $61,000,000 top-up which now extends the scheme to 2024. Here is a 4.5 minute tutorial:

15.01.2022 School chaplain who prank-called woman in the midst of legal battle and told her she'd lost custody of her children gets off scot-free. Myles William Larsen, 31, a taxpayer-funded chaplain at the Yeronga State High School in Queensland, used a fake Scottish accent while he called the woman pretending to be from the Department of Child Safety.

14.01.2022 NSWTF president Angelo Gavrielatos told Daily Mail Australia religious education should occur outside of school hours as it was a private matter for parents and their children. 'School time is for teaching and learning, and special religious instruction should not be interrupting the crucial learning of students during the school day,' Mr Gavrielatos said. 'To do otherwise denies students valuable time necessary to ensure their educational needs can be met.'... NSW Primary Principals' Association vice president Michael Trist echoed Mr Gavrielatos' viewpoint and not because of anti-religious reasons - but because teachers were overloaded on the current curriculum. 'This is one area where we could save time,' he told Daily Mail Australia. 'We are not anti-church. We see value in kids being involved in religious instruction but we would rather have it become a before or after school option. 'We'd be happy for church groups to use facilities on school groups during these hours, just like soccer or swimming teams.'

14.01.2022 While the planned 'Hillsong 2020 Schools Tour’ is disturbing and attracting much attention, it is important to note that since 2007, Hillsong church has been Trojan Horsing ultra-evangelical programs, including ‘Shine’ for girls, into Australia’s public schools via the taxpayer funded National School Chaplaincy Program. This is described in detail within a superb May 2014 article by Chrys Stevenson in ‘The Big Smoke’.

09.01.2022 I just believe that, you know, we are a Christian country and I think it's nice to have that grounding, morals and values with Christianity and I have no problem with it.

09.01.2022 Parents crusading to ban religious instruction from Queensland schools during class hours have been granted an audience with the state Education Minister. Queensland Parents for Secular State Schools began a campaign two weeks ago to ask Education Queensland to examine the 2016 decision by Education Victoria to shift religious instruction classes out of school hours. 06.01.2022 Church-based religious instruction should be banished from Queensland schools during class hours, according to the teachers' union. Long-serving Queensland Teachers' Union president Kevin Bates said church-based religious instruction should be moved out of class hours and offered instead before school or during lunch hours. Mr Bates said it was time to review the Education Act given the low proportion of parents cited at between 25 per cent and 30 per cent who gave their children permission to attend the classes.

01.01.2022 School chaplain cyberbullying education uses insecure Flash software, and the certification quiz is a ‘keep clicking until you get it right’ affair. Cyberbullying detection training has commenced for Australia’s School Chaplains, the federally-funded guardians of school students’ wellbeing. But the program requires the known-to-be-insecure and mobile-device-hostile Flash plugin and the agency operating it warns that parts are hosted on its own infrastructure and are therefore...Continue reading
