23.01.2022 Concerned about your risk of melanoma. Check out this validated risk predictor from the QIMR. The Melanoma Risk Predictor has been derived from a study of 42,000 Australian participants and has been validated in Australia. The performance of the predictor in other parts of the world cannot be guaranteed. The Melanoma Risk Predictor is not intended to be used as a substitute for your doctors advice. You should always consult your doctor if you think you might be at risk, part...icularly if you have noticed a new or changed skin lesion. The Melanoma Risk Predictor is designed to provide an estimation of a persons risk of developing melanoma over the next 3.5 years. The Melanoma Risk Predictor is intended for people who have never been diagnosed previously with melanoma. Melanomas are the most dangerous type of skin cancer. The predictor does not estimate a specific risk of you developing other kinds of skin cancer [such as basal cell carcinoma (BCC) and squamous cell carcinoma (SCC)]. The predictor may be updated from time to time with new data which may affect results generated from use of the tool. The information provided by the predictor is to be used as a general guide and not to be solely relied upon. It is highly recommended that you discuss your personal risk factors and results of this risk assessment with your doctor. #melanomariskpredictor

20.01.2022 Queensland has been able to slow the spread of novel coronavirus (COVID-19) because you have been following advice on self-quarantine. Thank you. Your efforts... are saving Queensland lives. So, lets keep it up. We all have a huge part to play in reducing the number of people who get the virus and protecting those who are most at risk. As the impact of the virus in Queensland changes, our advice will change, so it is important to get up-to-date advice from credible sources. For our updates, please visit www.health.qld.gov.au/coronavirus As we prepare for the possibility of more cases across the state, lets do what Queenslanders do best stick together and help each other out.

19.01.2022 Viraclean is the sterilsing agent that we use at South East Dermatology to clean our rooms and our UVB light therapy room in between patients. Viraclean contains an agent called Benzalkonium chloride. This is used in some laundry sanitisers ( canestan laundry hygiene rinse) and some eczema washes (QV flare up cream and wash) . It can occasionally cause skin reactions ie contact allergic dermatitis.... The TGA has approved the claim that Viraclean destroys coronavirus. #covidready

13.01.2022 Dupixent (Dupilumab) is a new treatment for eczema. At present it is approved for use in Australia however it is NOT funded by the PBS. It is very effective but will cost patients 1600 per month. It is being considered for PBS funding which would be great for both patients and doctors treating severe eczema. It is likely that any future PBS approval will require patients to have failed other systemic treatments first much like the newer monoclonal antibody treatments for Psoriasis. Fingers crossed that this medication gets approval at the March meeting. #eczemadupixent
