21.01.2022 1. Books I've read by black writers from other countries. 2. Books I've read by black writers from Australia. A glaringly large imbalance going on here that I'm looking to address. Looking back at my reading life, I can see I sought out books from other places, perhaps because they felt more interesting or, more likely, because the distance made the subject matter and ideas easier (i.e. less prickly) to contemplate. I used to blame my high school education for not includin...g Australian history and aboriginal history - but I have to acknowledge I didn't seek out that learning either. I'm trying to do so now.
