24.01.2022 Have you heard of the breast crawl?? Allowing baby to make its own way to the breast to feed via instinct and smell (and very little sight, hence why our areola darkens during pregnancy) https://youtu.be/t43-Pets8yQ

23.01.2022 Does a membrane sweep work? Membrane sweeps are considered a form of induction, but not always effective. Evidence suggests that membrane sweeps after 41 weeks gestation can decrease your chances of going to/past 42 weeks from 41% to 23%. Research also suggests that membrane sweeps can decrease your chance of needing a formal induction. ... The pros and cons of membrane sweeps should be discussed with you and your provider.

18.01.2022 Did you know, during labour, some women (well more their providers or support person) report the labouring person having a purple line appear between their bottom cheeks! This usually represents where they are during their labour. When the line reaches the natal cleft (top of the bottom) it’s usually means the 2nd stage is only minutes away. A line sitting about an inch below the natal cleft usually mean transition and a line just above the anus usually mean early labour!

18.01.2022 Membrane sweeping can also cause bleeding and irregular contractions. These contractions can cause false hope and excitement, keeping you up and tired, just for them to fade away, or they could turn into real contractions, but there is no guarantee. It can also cause your waters to break, about 1 in 10 chance. This can cause longer a longer labour, and increases your chance of needing a medical induction if you don’t progress on your own within a certain time frame.

13.01.2022 Is your provider "VBAC supportive" or "VBAC tolerant"? Many families don't know how to spot the difference (or that they should even be looking for "supportive"... instead of "tolerant"!) A VBAC Tolerant provider will usually leave you with feelings of worry, some doubt in your birthing abilities, and feeling a bit unsure about the likelihood you will get to attempt vaginal birth! A VBAC Supportive provider will usually make you feel understood and heard! They will use positive language when discussing your VBAC, and give you clear statements about their thoughts and how you can plan together for your TOLAC! Choosing the right provider for your VBAC is a crucial step in ensuring that you feel supported, and making sure your care team is all on the same page about your wishes!

10.01.2022 So what are some cons of membrane sweeps? Many women report that membrane sweeps are painful. A study has found that 70% of women said that they experienced significant pain, rating the pain 7/10.

10.01.2022 Another con with membrane sweeps is that not all providers ask for your consent, and will do it when performing a cervical check. Cervical checks and membrane sweeps can also introduce bacteria into your cervix. If you do not wish to have a membrane sweep, and opt for a cervical check make sure to let them know you do not want the membranes to be swept.

08.01.2022 Some pros about membrane sweeping. Having the membranes swept, can, in some instances kick start labour. This means that you can avoid medical induction.
