16.01.2022 Yes! Thank you, Tracy (of Raised Good) for these brilliant words.
13.01.2022 Blocks provide children with the opportunity to exercise a variety of skills that will help them later in life. Blocks encourage social, emotional, physical, and cognitive skills. They also encourage problem solving, symbolic thinking and math concepts. Also, spatial skills, logical, mathematical skills, planning, construction and social dramatic play opportunities. There are lots of different types of blocks. There are cubes, blocks for infants, and blocks that are suit...able for outdoor play, table blocks, unit blocks, hollow blocks, tree blocks, soft blocks made of foam. Blocks motivate creative thinking because of the planning that’s involved. They have to do lots of problem solving. They learn concepts of physics without saying it in such a scientific way. See more

10.01.2022 I had a little hobby horse, And it was dapple grey; Its head was made of pea-straw, Its tail was made of hay. I sold it to an old woman... For a copper groat; And I’ll not sing my song again Without a new coat. See more
10.01.2022 Stone stacking ( or wooden gems) is an excellent way to clear your mind of other things. Being at one with nature and focussing on a single task will help focus your mind and concentrate. By stacking regularly you can build up a great ability to really concentrate and focus in the moment. Finding the point of gravity to balance is as much a feel as it is a look. Depth perception can be blurred when stacking and it is key to trust the hands and feel of the stone as your are stacking. This combination of hand eye coordination has shown to improve hand eye coordination in many other ways.

08.01.2022 HEALTHY RISK TAKING As parents, it is a natural instinct to protect our children from any harm or discomfort. They ride a bike with no trainer wheels for the... first time and naturally we want to stand over them ready to catch their fall; but this is far more damaging than a few scratches and bruises. For example, let’s say your child wants to climb a tree in the backyard. Your child has strong motor and problem solving skills. The tree is healthy and has low-lying, sturdy branches. The risks of climbing this tree are fairly small yet the benefits, in terms of confidence and independence, are large. This is a healthy risk. The child begins to climb the tree and is feeling empowered, proud and in control of their body. You stand nearby watching, and supporting them. They can focus on their foot placement and body awareness with full trust in their choices. Now in another scenario..... your child runs up to a tree excitedly finding their first branch to grab hold of. You run after them panicking and yell CAREFUL!. They lose all confidence instantly. They now think you don’t trust them to make healthy risk decisions, so they second guess themselves. You stand beneath them jumping and shrieking in fear every time they climb higher. They find this very distracting and their hand slips. You say ok that’s enough and they come down. They have now not only missed out on a heap of fun climbing that awesome tree, but their confidence, trust and ability to detect danger has been taken away from them. This of course is NOT INTENTIONAL AT ALL. We love our children and the last thing we want is to see them in pain, but these are important steps they need to take when they’re little, so they can make healthy risks when they’re big.
08.01.2022 Why oh why is tree climbing not as celebrated as holding a jolly pencil? Look at the nimbleness needed... the persistence....the choreography with hand feet and... core connection... the balance ... the strength... the determination... the JOY...the confidence and competence!!! I just cannot help but become ecstatic when I see a child attain a challenge that they have been trying to master for awhile. We have honestly seen tree climbing go to new heights and depths... the other day 2 girls were doing ‘synchronised tree core dancing ‘ hanging and balancing with grace and strength... I almost thought this could become a new ‘ art’ ... How does holding a pencil really even compare? Why is tree climbing/ balancing/ dancing not celebrated as the triumph it is? The whole body is awake and engaged... Learning to move and moving to learn ... The beauty in movement is like a poem created with the body not words. Poetic movement.
07.01.2022 Embrace these moments because great learning and growing is happening!

Susan Perrow This morning the children showed an interest in my cup of tea so we brewed a pot of camomile tea in my grandmother’s teapot and shared our tea in china cups. How special
01.01.2022 In our backyard, we keep a variety of loose parts, including pipes, blocks, reels and scrap wood, for building all sorts of things. We have made elaborate balance beam obstacle course, ramps & roads for cars The latest creation, however, was inspired by marble runs. We sourced some small balls and the experimentation and adjustments began..
