17.01.2022 I have had the pleasure of working with Shiraz once per week for a little under 2 months now. Shiraz was known to spook, sometimes proceeding to run and buck and getting the rider off. Shiraz had a sweet nature and working with her I found she was extremely sensitive meaning when you couldn't rest your legs on her sides without her jumping or getting anxious (which explained why she panicked and bucked after a spook as the rider would naturally, grip with their legs to keep ...their own balance), she grew tense and stiffen whenever she had contact through the reins and when she grew anxious or off balance she would fall into a pace. I started with 3 ground sessions working on desentising, getting her more confident with pressure and teaching her the tools she would need to bring her back to a relaxed mind space under saddle. After 4 rides, today her owner, Felicia, was able to jump back on and did super without a single episode of pacing! If anything she is sometimes now a little dull to the leg! There is still some work to be done helping this girl learn how to canter but her strengthening work is back in the hands of her owner

15.01.2022 Very important to check qualifications of people you have working on your saddles or even your horse in general. Don't be afraid to ask people of their qualifications or to ask questions in general whether it's a saddle fitter, farrier, trainer, coach, body worker etc. Questions lead to learning and the person with the correct qualifications or experience will be happy to answer you.
15.01.2022 Who should you get to treat your horse? Who is qualified to touch your horse? Can I ask someone for their qualifications before they come to treat your horse? (Absolutely!)... It can be tough trying to navigate between the practitioners available in the equine world. But don't be afraid to ask questions, hopefully this newsletter by the Australian College of Animal Tactile Therapy will help navigating this decision easier.

11.01.2022 Incredible video showing the structures of the hoof and how important it is to have a good farrier
11.01.2022 Caught in the act! This girl is a regular client of mine receiving her monthly massages but also weekly riding/training. She's usually very camera shy and will stop releasing once she sees the phone come out but this time I managed to catch her
09.01.2022 Love the relaxation that Remy showed today in his treatment
08.01.2022 Let them be horses. Turn them out, let them run. Let them buck, let them leap, rather in the field than the arena, right?... Give them a herd, even a herd of two. Let them be with other horses, what’s a life without friends? Give them downtime, not just days off riding, but days to enjoy life. Happy horses are trainable horses. Take the rug off, let them feel the sun. Let them roll in the mud, a little dirt never hurt anyone. Escape the arena and explore, don’t stick to the well worn path. The most beautiful places are usually found by accident. Showing them how much you love them doesn’t have to come from buying expensive things. You can buy every rug, all the boots, the best tack, wash them, groom them, feed them, put them in the best yard, with the best facilities and wrap them up in cotton wool, but one day you’ll realise the best thing you could possibly do... ... is just let them be horses.
07.01.2022 Love my job and love continuing to learn Tonight's focus, Biomechanics, learning more about how horses move and what affects their movement Iso is allowing for a lot more in depth study time
06.01.2022 Awesome feedback from a client today "Super comprehensive service today, relative to other equine body-workers I’ve used, so I look forward to seeing you again in Jan/Feb to continue to work with Remy!" Additional review in comments!
06.01.2022 It's that time of year again, the grass is getting greener and for many of our four-legged friends that means their grazing time needs to be carefully monitored. Did you know the sugar levels in grass are the highest at the end of the day? That's right, grass spends all day turning sunlight into sugar to power its rapid spring growth, and this process is reversed at night where the sugar is being used so the levels are going down. ... What does that mean for the laminitis-prone or cushings pony? It means its safer for them to graze in the early morning than in the afternoon. Prevention is much better than treatment! Don't wait until your horse or pony is showing signs of laminitis to take action, take the preventative steps to stop the negative reactions from occurring. Set up a schedule or process that works long term rather than fighting the issue once it's presents itself. Take the preventative steps now, such as; Monitor your ponies weight and bring them out for some exercise to keep their weight at a good level. At this time of year it's better for them to be a little bit under than a little bit over (consult your veterinarian if your pony's already showing lameness) Feed low sugar or soaked hay Create a paddock within a paddock, use temporary fencing to create a box cutting off the centre of the paddock. This will limit the amount of grass your pony has access to and make them have to constantly move and walk around the perimeter giving them more exercise Use a grazing muzzle, whether this has to be all the time or put on late morning and taken off late at night will depend on how prone your pony is or whether they are showing symptoms Locking your pony up during the day in a yard or Jenny Craig paddock with hay and letting them out at night If your pony is really prone or already showing signs a Jenny Craig paddock with low sugar or soaked hay in a slow feeder may be needed day and night Remember Prevention is key! Keep your ponies happy and safe as we enter a crazy spring!

05.01.2022 Got some beautiful feedback this morning on a horse I treated last week who is no longer showing discomfort when being saddled and it warmed my heart and made me smile Feedback like that is part of why I love what I do, hearing about horses thriving from their treatments.
