16.01.2022 This May is Crohn's and Colitis awareness month! We want to know- how do you manage Inflammatory Bowel Disease (Ulcerative Colitis or Crohn’s Disease) flare ups? Do you restrict your diet in an effort to manage symptoms? A common misconception is that diet causes IBD, however this isn’t the case. The best approach is to consult with your gastroenterologist and to eat a nutrient-rich variety of whole foods to reduce the risk of malnutrition that is associated with both conditions. Enjoy a variety of vegetables, fruit, fish, poultry, soluble fibre (oats, psyllium, legumes), and healthy fats (olive oil, nut/ seed butter), and include insoluble fibre (whole-wheat bread, pasta, brown rice), dairy and nuts/ seeds as tolerated.
