25.01.2022 I like this proverb.

25.01.2022 2020 training classes will commence on Monday 3rd February. Time to start stretching now. Bring along your friends, family, neighbors, we have plenty of room for all of you. Oh, and those who made "that" new years resolution .... loosing weight while enjoying yourself and learning something at the same time is the way to go.

23.01.2022 Lets not forget were we came from.

23.01.2022 Just as well we have this large off the street parking lot. This photo was taken well before the junior class started. Sensei Aaron trained with us again tonight introdicing Tekki Shodan kata in the senior class. Shotokan style kata which some of us long forgotten and others have never done it before. Good session, another little step forward for all of us. Thank you Aaron.

23.01.2022 Our first training session this year went well - a lot of stretching was needed!

23.01.2022 Dont let it rest. We could be in for a long break but it doesnt mean no training.

23.01.2022 Update: All our instructors (six black belts) have Blue Cards and will attend a two-day seminar in May to attain Bronze Level Coaching qualifications through QKA.

21.01.2022 The ladies practicing hard this morning for a demo in Japan (DNBK) in few months time.

21.01.2022 Focus, determination and fighting spirit are some of the essentials necessary to progress into higher levels.

19.01.2022 Dear all, Thank you to all that notified us of your interest in resuming training, starting 13th July 2020. The clubs instructors have looked at the ability, resources and logistical methods to manage a Covid-19 Safe Plan to the level that is expected from Cairns State Special School. Unfortunately, it was decided that we do not have the resources and ability to adhere to a Covid-19 Safe Plan for the rest of the year. ... We dont have enough volunteers to administer and supervise to the Covid-19 Safe Plan level that is expected by the school. We also dont think it is viable to train students to a high level with the restrictions on social distancing. Due to the club not being able to recommence training we would like to reimburse Membership Fees for 2020 for those who have paid. Please send your Bank Details to Christine. Her email is [email protected] by the 15th July 2020. This has been a difficult decision and one we didnt take lightly. Bronnie - Admin Seibukan Karate Cairns.

18.01.2022 Dear Members, With the evolving impact of COVID-19 we have decided to cancel all classes. There will be no training Monday 23rd March 2020 and thereon. We thank you for your understanding and we will keep you informed regarding recommencement of classes. Take care.

17.01.2022 Exciting news! Our club is in process of purchasing brand new mats to cover the entire floor space in our dojo. We will be be selling the old mats ($10.- each) if anyone is interested for your own training area at home. (see Christine)... As a non-profit club we invest our income into updating training equipment and profession development.

17.01.2022 How does sport (tournament) karate differ from original (traditional) karate? In most aspects the basics (kihon) are the same or very similar, depending on the style of karate. However, there are some differences in application. In real fight, and in traditional dojo sparring sessions, there is no one to call yame, go back to your line and continue from there, no one to award points or penalties, no bell ringing the end of the contest and no awkward, restrictive protective ...gear. The approach to traditional (practical) sparring is very different, it requires strong attitude, spirit and determination as there is no time limit, its up to the Sensei to stop the session when he/she feels the karateka have done enough. In tournament kata, competitors are judged on their performance and awarded points. In real karate, there are no judges, kata is a part of a personal development and open to personal expression of the various components, whilst still following the traditional form. It doesnt matter if your kata looks pretty, what matters is what are you are gaining from practicing your kata. So, when choosing a karate style and a dojo to train in, it is your decision which direction you want to follow. See more

16.01.2022 Dear members, to be members, parents and friends of Seibukan Karate Academy, I trust you are all looking forward to training in 2020. In order to streamline the training classes we are thinking of making some changes in the times and also structure of the sessions. Junior classes will remain unchanged, that is Mondays and Wednesdays 5.30 6.30. Seniors and high school students are invited to start at 5.30 for a warm-up and then continue the session with karate training till ...7.00pm. Saturday morning 10.00-11.00am is open to seniors and high school students but it will be an open class without formal instruction. Please note that this new training format will start from the 17th Feb and will be on trial to test its functionality and support from members. The club will hold an AGM on Wednesday 12th Feb at 7.00pm and we encourage all students and parents to attend this important meeting. Not only will we nominate and elect people to fill the official positions on the committee but we also invite input from all of our members.

16.01.2022 Something to watch whilst in isolation. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vnea9lQLp0A

15.01.2022 This is quite interesting and thought provoking. https://www.facebook.com/karatebyjesse/videos/2624375687825492/UzpfSTEwMDAwMDY5ODEzMTA2MzozMjU3ODE5MjkwOTE3OTc3/

14.01.2022 Not the best news: "Queensland children will learn from home for the first five weeks of Term 2. " It will be a while before we recommence training at the dojo. Its so important to train at home in the meanwhile .... I know, its not the same but we, as individuals dont want to fall back with basics and kata.... Train hard - stay strong.

13.01.2022 This time four years ago we returned from Japan. A memorable event that left a mark in our hearts.

10.01.2022 Saturday morning open class. Its a great opportunity for us to practice what we need to improve on, be it kihon (basics), kata, kumite or demo practice. No interruptions, no counting, just plenty of self-discipline.

10.01.2022 Faster Jade, faster!

10.01.2022 We had a special visitor from UK this morning. Mr. Aaron Harris (5th dan) a senior instructor with NAKMAS. Hell back on Monday to train with us again.

10.01.2022 "The last supper" for those of us who regularly trained on Saturdays. Each session we put some money into a box for social dinner .... one day. That day was last Saturday at Thai Coins restaurant. Images by Albert Jindra.

08.01.2022 Toshi practicing kata

04.01.2022 It takes some encouragement to make the young ones punch hard and on the target. Karate is a fighting art, not dancing, students must approach sparring with the right attitude, good technique and vigor but also measured control.

04.01.2022 The last training session in 2019. The juniors (only a small class) were judged on various aspects of karate and were rewarded with a bar of chocolate. One of the judges got his hand in the bag too.

02.01.2022 ARE YOU READY FOR MONDAY?

02.01.2022 If you want to practice Iai-do, bring your katana or boken to Saturdays sessions (members only).

01.01.2022 Thanks to Matsunoki Karate in Townsville for this showcase of Kata aspects.
