25.01.2022 Dear all, As you will all be aware, coronavirus (Covid-19) is a very real issue overseas and it is becoming one for us here in Australia. I am sure that we are all taking the risks seriously and looking for solutions. As of today, the Department of Health and Human Services has advised that everyone who has returned from overseas and is unwell with flu-like symptoms (fever, dry cough, sore throat and shortness of breath being the most frequently reported symptoms) is at risk... of having Covid-19. To ensure the health of all of Seishin members and their families, we ask that everyone waits two weeks after returning from interstate or overseas travel before attending the dojo, even if without symptoms. The same applies for any close contact with people returning from overseas. If you have had close contact, I ask that you also refrain from attending the dojo for two weeks. Anyone who has been in close contact with a confirmed case of COVID-19 should also self-isolate at home until two weeks after their last contact, even if without symptoms. As the virus is spread by people with symptoms through coughing and sneezing, the best way to protect others is to practice good personal hygiene. Everyone should practise good hygiene to protect against infections. Good hygiene includes: washing your hands often with soap and water using a tissue and cover your mouth when you cough or sneeze avoiding close contact with others, such as touching Thank you for your loyalty and support.

24.01.2022 Some butterflies this morning.

23.01.2022 It is with very deep sadness that we inform you that our sensei, Oda Katsuo Iaido 8th Dan Hanshi & Kendo 7th Dan Kyoshi passed away yesterday. He was way more ...than a sensei for us, he was the heart of our loving Eishin family. A grandfather, an uncle, a brother, a friend. Giving hard lessons in the dojo but always ready for a friendly Dai ni dojo full of joy, sharing stories and simple moments of nominication. He will always be in our heart and his teaching will be forever with us in our daily practice and life. He was more than doing Iaido and kendo, he was living them. There would be so many things to say but no words will be enough. For all of those who knew him it is a terrible loss and pain. He was fantastic. Goodbye sensei you will live forever in our heart boss. He was the boss. He was our boss. Oda's Eishin Kai Family - BYK

22.01.2022 Good session this morning, despite worries about COVD-19. Not pictured are the sanitizers provided.

20.01.2022 I have found this old videographic document from the 30s, in which the ten kata of Nihon Kendo are recorded in a very particular way (for example the use of Fum...ikomi in the cuts), as you know Nihon Kendo Kata was created by integrating many kata from different kenjutsu schools in 1912. The purpose of this action was, I heard, to keep the traditional kenjutsu forms in kendo to remember where kendo came from. This historical document evidences the process followed when the Japanese government in the early 1900s to transfer the Samurai spirit to the modern era commissioned 5 of the most valuable Sensei of Kenjustu to codify the Kata (sword techniques) Takano Sasaburo - Ono Ha Itto Ryu Monna Tadashi - Hokushi Itto Ryu Naito Takaharu - Hokushin Itto Ryu Tsuji Shinpei - Shingyoto Ryu Negishi Shingoro - Shindo Munen Ryu In 1912, they presented the Dai Nippon Teikoku Kendo Kata (Kendo Kata of Great Imperial Japan) this codification arose from the synthesis of the best sword techniques of Japan, and consisted of 7 kata of tachi against tachi (long sword against long sword) and 3 kata of tachi versus kodachi (long sword versus short sword) Q.Ortiz, Naples april 2020

09.01.2022 By the time that I had received my terminal diagnosis I knew enough about Grade 4 Glioblastomas to realise that it was not survivable. The survival rate for any... length of time is one in fifty. I had accepted that I was going to die. One person who had not accepted this was Liz. Her regime of exercise and diet helped me get back on my feet after surgery and during treatment. It also helped the process of fighting the cancer back. Because medical science does not know what causes these cancers in the first place there is a push to advance research to better understand them. Liz is running in the Melbourne marathon with the curebraincancer.org team to raise funds. Check the link https://runmelbourne2018.everydayhero.com//l/wizard/donate Please donate if you can to support her efforts.

01.01.2022 Sad news. Ruth Franklin sensei gave a lot to our iaido community, taught and encouraged many iaido students. For many years, Ruth taught in Sydney and was a stalwart of the NSW iaido community for years. She was always among the first to volunteer and gave freely of her time to a great number of people. ... Ruth will be sadly missed. Sympathy and condolences to Ruths family, freinds and students of iaido.
