25.01.2022 Today's FINANCE FACT Friday : The impact of the Corona Virus on Businesses of all sizes has been huge. As businesses, we must remain aware that businesses will get hit with new hurdles every week. Good businesses will LEARN from these, and find ways to overcome them. They must be adaptable, have a Plan B, and will put in place measures to minimise the impact of the unforeseen. Simple things like Measuring and Monitoring of business Performance, Data backup, AntiVirus and Fi...rewalls, Insurance, having Diversity of Clients (or Suppliers), Financial "reserves", Staffing reward & Succession structures, trusted Advisors, Proper Agreements/Invoices and Credit terms ..... the list goes on. Try to build a Moat around you business, to minimise future disruption/competition effects. The saying goes : "Its only when the tide goes out, that you can see who has been swimming naked". 25.01.2022 Inflation Week : what about cars?... well they have (like airfares) actually got cheaper (compared to income). Again competition and the access to the world of imports has kept prices down. In the 70's and 80's it would take 1-1.5 year's salary, now the average new car is at $29,000, about 6 months salary.

True in all facets of business; it's so important to have (and understand) measurable benchmarks to be able to gauge AND address the ongoing business performance. BUT, isn't this true in home life too?... 23.01.2022 Today's Friday FINANCE FACT : what about shares ? So I get my return from Dividend Payments and Capital (share value) appreciation. So how have they performed over time ? The broader measure of Sharemarket performance is the All Ordinaries Index. This measures the daily movement of the Top 500 listed Australian Companies (which also represent around 95% of the total collective value of all listed companies). This movement, published in points/cents and percentage gives a guide to what the change in share prices averaged for the day (month, year etc). To measure your return, again you need to look at the change in (share) values, plus the 6 monthly dividends paid to investors. The Table here shows the sharemarket performance over time.



20.01.2022 It's Finance FACT Friday - Fun with finance : "Someone told me that I paid most of my interest at the start of my loan, so it's not worth paying it out now" - Defo TRUE - You DO pay most of your interest at the start !! It is easiest explained by "The rule of 78" example. Let's use a 1 year term loan for simplicity. The addition of 12 months equals 78 (1+2+3+4+5+6+7+8+9+10+11+12 = 78). So what happens with loans, is that you pay 12/78ths of TOTAL interest in the 1st month, 11/78ths in the 2nd month etc etc, and thus pay only 1/78th of the total interest in the last month.
