In the beginning, Instagram worked chronologically, that is, posts were displayed to users according to the order of posting. However, that changed in mid-2016 when they developed their algorithm with the main goal for the posts most relevant to each user's experience to appear in their feeds. This caused much confusion and complaints at the time, but Instagram has continued to see increased numbers of users, po...sts and engagement on its platform. In fact, users engage more on Instagram than on Facebook - 58% more to be precise. According to Instagram there are 6 key factors that the algorithm relies on: 1. Interest 2. Relationship 3. Instagram doesn't roll out a new version every few weeks, but is in fact, changing all of the time, based on the massive amount of data it gains every minute of every day.
