25.01.2022 International Day of Non-Violence Friday, 2 October 2020 International non-violence day is observed to spread public awareness on peace, love and harmonious co-existence.... It is celebrated on the birthday of a man who helped bring forward the notion of non-violence, and the tremendous impact this form of social response has had all over the world in the last century. On the International Day of Non-Violence, created by the United Nations in 2007, we look back on the influence of an Indian activist born Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi but known the world over as Mahatma Gandhi. The International Day of Non-Violence honors how Gandhi’s work and legacy has impacted global, non-violent protest. The UN has good reason to use Gandhi’s birthday to celebrate International Day of Non-Violence. Gandhi’s commitment to India’s independence and his methods have been the cornerstone of civil and human rights initiatives all over the world. Put simply, Gandhi saw it as completely irrational to use violence to achieve peace, but rather, just means lead to just ends. This is a lesson we can all take to heart.

Let’s remember the fathers whom have since passed their spirit shines within our hearts; let us remember also the dutiful men who have taken on the role of a father to children that are not their own; and fathers, step-fathers & grandfathers everywhere for all the acts of kindness, caring and love that they share with us everyday. Dads are most ordinary men turned by love into heroes, adventurers, story-tellers, and singers of song.

16.01.2022 World Bee Day 20 May 2020 Without bees, we wouldn't "bee" here at all!... The main purpose of World Bee Day is to raise awareness around the world about the importance of bees and other pollinators for humankind. At the same time, it is an opportunity for the profession, policymakers, industry and the general public to address the challenges facing bee conservation, and to outline specific activities to ensure their survival. Bee populations and the populations of other pollinators have significantly decreased, making them more and more endangered. This is affected by numerous factors which are the consequence of human activity: intensive agriculture, widespread use of pesticides and pollution caused by waste. Bees are exposed to new diseases and pests. The living environment of bees is shrinking due to the ever-increasing number of the global population. Their survival and development are also threatened by climate change. Without bees, we cannot achieve a world without hunger. World Bee Day highlights the threats bees face and how everyone can help.

07.01.2022 International Nurses Day 12th May 2020 It is timely that the World Health Organization (WHO) designated 2020 as the International Year of the Nurse and the Midwife (YONM). The courageous work of nurses and other healthcare workers in the face of coronavirus does honour to the YONM 2020 and the 200th anniversary of Florence Nightingale’s birth.... The theme for International Nurses Day 2020 is: A Voice to Lead Nursing the World to Health, in recognition of the contributions nurses make and the risks associated with nursing shortages. WHO estimates there will be a worldwide shortfall of nine million nurses and midwives by 2030 unless radical action is taken now. It is time for governments to step up and take decisive action to invest in their nursing and midwifery workforce. This requires countries to increase their allocation to health budgets, not only increasing numbers but ensuring that nurses and midwives are resourced and supported to meet the world's health care needs. There are plenty of organisations supporting our nurses during the COVID-19 pandemic. 05.01.2022 World No Alcohol Day Friday, 2 October 2020 India proposed officially at the 2008 World Health Assembly in Geneva that Mahatma Gandhi’s birth anniversary could be a dry day globally and that October 2 be declared ‘World No Alcohol Day’.... The proposal came on a day when all 193 WHO member countries signed a resolution to reduce alcohol related harm. WHO spent the next two years developing a global alcohol strategy. With rather small attention ‘No Alcohol Day’ is a part of a WHO effort to raise awareness and reduce the abuse of alcohol. Did you know? The World Health Organization (WHO) stablishes that men can drink a maximum of 30g of alcohol a day (280g/week), while women may drink as much as 20g/day (140g/week). A greater consumption could be indicative of a alcohol dependence.

04.01.2022 NAIDOC Week Sun 8 November - 15 November 2020 Always Was, Always Will Be. Always Was, Always Will Be recognises that First Nations people have occupied and cared for this continent for over 65,000 years.... We are spiritually and culturally connected to this country. This country was criss-crossed by generations of brilliant Nations. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people were Australia’s first explorers, first navigators, first engineers, first farmers, first botanists, first scientists, first diplomats, first astronomers and first artists. Australia has the world’s oldest oral stories. The First Peoples engraved the world’s first maps, made the earliest paintings of ceremony and invented unique technologies. We built and engineered structures - structures on Earth - predating well-known sites such as the Egyptian Pyramids and Stonehenge. Our adaptation and intimate knowledge of Country enabled us to endure climate change, catastrophic droughts and rising sea levels. Always Was, Always Will Be. acknowledges that hundreds of Nations and our cultures covered this continent. All were managing the land - the biggest estate on earth - to sustainably provide for their future. Through ingenious land management systems like fire stick farming we transformed the harshest habitable continent into a land of bounty. NAIDOC Week 2020 acknowledges and celebrates that our nation’s story didn’t begin with documented European contact whether in 1770 or 1606 - with the arrival of the Dutch on the western coast of the Cape York Peninsula. The very first footprints on this continent were those belonging to First Nations peoples. Our coastal Nations watched and interacted with at least 36 contacts made by Europeans prior to 1770. Many of them resulting in the charting of the northern, western and southern coastlines of our lands and our waters. For us, this nation’s story began at the dawn of time. NAIDOC 2020 invites all Australians to embrace the true history of this country a history which dates back thousands of generations. It’s about seeing, hearing and learning the First Nations’ 65,000+ year history of this country - which is Australian history. We want all Australians to celebrate that we have the oldest continuing cultures on the planet and to recognise that our sovereignty was never ceded. Always Was, Always Will Be.
