18.01.2022 Solving Linear Equations I just saw a student workbook prepared by a school in which the 'balance' method and a 'bridge swap' method are both introduced. My suggestion would be to stick to one method and I prefer the balance method with its associated concept of undoing. To present more than one method seems unhelpful to all concerned. If a student sees this bridge swap shortcut and asks if is ok then it is fine to agree because it shows that the student has understood the process. Some teachers need to realise they are educators not trainers. The word 'education' comes from the Latin 'educere' meaning to lead out.
