25.01.2022 Although this article focuses on the divorce process in the USA there are a few good tips you should keep in mind if you are going through the divorce process in Australia.

24.01.2022 Over my 10+ years in family law, I have helped many clients to resolve their family disputes, both in and out of the Court system. While I’m all for encouraging clients to explore alternative resolution methods, I do have some reservations about the internet portal suggestion and it’s application. Specialist family lawyers have an important role to play in educating clients about the process and what is determined to be fair and reasonable in a separation. My concern is that without this independent advice, some parties might get the short end of the stick, so to speak. I’d be interested to hear what others think about the proposal.

22.01.2022 During my time advising clients who are separating or divorcing, I have seen some who feel ‘stuck’ when the legal process is finished and don’t know how to move forward in their lives. I often refer these clients to a team of experts, such as counsellors or psychologists, who can help them to rebuild their lives. This article outlines five practical tips which are also a great starting point for anyone who might be feeling this way.

21.01.2022 Last week, John McGinn, Jordan Lewis and I presented at the College of Law on the topic ‘Preparing for Court and Settlement Conferences’. Looking forward to presenting again in February 2020.

20.01.2022 Looking forward to presenting at the College of Law next Wednesday, 11 September, with my colleagues Maurine Pyke QC and Jane Miller.

19.01.2022 During the age of social distancing, below is a message from the Honourable Will Alstergren to assist parents to adhere to their parenting orders during COVID-19. If you have any concerns about complying with your parenting order or agreement or cannot reach agreement to vary it, please get in touch with our Family Law Team. https://www.familylawsection.org.au//20200324_FCA_FCCA_MR_

16.01.2022 A client of mine recently made a comment which made me smile. She told me that despite her and her ex separating, they are still close friends who regularly turn to each other for support, guidance or just to have a chat. Their children have also reported that they are happier because their parents are happier. Going through a divorce or a legal separation does not mean that you have to cease the friendship you once had with your ex. Particularly when children are involved, an attempt should be made to maintain a civil and amicable relationship with each other.

15.01.2022 If you are seeking parenting Orders ahead of the upcoming festive season, applications need to be filed with the Court by 8 November 2019. Applications filed after this date may not be heard prior to Christmas. If you are yet to reach an agreement with your ex about parenting arrangements over the festive season and you require legal advice, please call me on 8414 3576.

13.01.2022 With Christmas only a few days away, I would like to wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a safe, happy and healthy 2020. Our office will close from 12pm tomorrow and will re-open on Monday 6 January. Best wishes for a safe and wonderful break and I look forward to working with you all in 2020!

13.01.2022 The Australian Federal Parliament’s recent enquiry into family law has considered a proposal submitted by the Australian Family Association (AFA), recommending that separated couples should have to wait two years instead of one, before filing for divorce. In this article, I discuss the possible complications that could arise from such a change to the divorce process and if it will actually achieve the desired outcome of reconciliation. https://www.molawyers.com.au//should-the-separation-period

12.01.2022 I encourage clients to amicably divide their assets and reach an out of Court agreement about their children, however, I also recognise that this may not always... be possible and certain surprises may arise. If you have separated, or you are thinking about separating, it is important to obtain advice from an experienced family lawyer about your rights and entitlements. I can guide you through the process and help structure an outcome best suited to you and your family. See more

07.01.2022 After a lovely Christmas and New Year break spent celebrating with my friends and family, I am pleased to be back on deck for another year assisting family law clients. It’s well known that post-Christmas is a time when many people reconsider their relationship situation (in fact, yesterday was even coined ‘divorce day’), so if you or anyone you know would like a confidential discussion, please reach out to me on email ([email protected]) or give me a call on 8414 3576.

06.01.2022 Recently, I was interviewed by the College of Law about how I began my career in Family Law, what I love most about my work and what advice I have for colleagues looking to get into this area of practice. 04.01.2022 Pleased to be presenting this seminar for the College of Law. If you’re a family lawyer with less than 7 years’ experience, you might want to consider coming along. Full details and registration available via the link below.
