25.01.2022 The SACFS is proudly working with SA Health and other agencies in the COVID-19 Emergency Management Team with a very clear mission to flatten the curve of COVID... cases in our state. You can play your part by maintaining good personal hygiene practices such as washing your hands, practising social distancing, and undergoing self-quarantine if you develop symptoms or have recently returned from overseas. 25.01.2022 TOTAL FIRE BANS have been declared for 17 December 2019 in the following Fire Ban Districts: Mount Lofty Ranges - Severe Where Total Fire Bans have been declare...d, very hazardous fire weather conditions are predicted. The Total Fire Ban will apply for 24 hours from midnight tonight to midnight tomorrow. The CFS recommends that you implement your Bushfire Survival Plan. FIRE DANGER RATING Where fire ban districts have a forecast fire danger rating of Severe, well prepared and actively defended houses can offer safety during a fire. If you don't have a plan to ensure your survival, leaving early before a fire starts is your safest option. In making your plan, you should be aware that in high fire danger conditions, essential services including mains-fed electricity and water supply may not be available due to the prevailing weather conditions. Landowners are asked to adhere to local harvest codes of practice which are available from your local council. Landowners are also asked to ensure that any burn-off activities conducted today are fully extinguished before midnight tonight. Agencies are advised to activate their Total Fire Ban procedures in preparation for these predicted fire weather conditions. 24.01.2022 Our firefighters will look a little bit different over the next couple of days. Rest assured that under these mask are the same friendly, approachable, professional volunteer firefighters we normally are. These three fine gentlemen are on their way to Deepwater to assist with a bush fire over night.

24.01.2022 For anyone thinking it is a triffle smokey outside this morning.

24.01.2022 SMOKE FROM RAVINE FIRE - 9/1/20 You may notice its a bit smoky in areas around Adelaide and the mainland at the moment. This smoke is being pushed across from ...Kangaroo Island. Speaking to our embedded Meteorologist from the Bureau of Meteorology, this should last a few hours, and may be visible from about 7:30am tomorrow. If you have respiratory issues, please close doors and windows and stay indoors.

23.01.2022 An Open Letter to the South Australian community: The 2019/20 Fire Danger Season officially finishes at midnight tonight, finalising one of the busiest seasons ...in our history. The CFS really started our season in September, more than a month before our own season officially started, as a horrendous start to the season in Queensland and New South Wales saw local crews stretched to their limits. Over the next three months until after Christmas, CFS dedicated more than 1,300 volunteer firefighter and incident management personnel to help these two states battle unprecedented bushfires. Unfortunately this was only the start of our efforts this season with our own fires burning in catastrophic conditions near Port Lincoln and Yorketown in November, followed by the large fires in Cudlee Creek and Kangaroo Island in December and January. These were only a handful of the thousands of fires our CFS volunteers attended throughout the fire season with large fires in every Region from Keilira in the South East, Coonalpyn, Miltalie on the Eyre Peninsula and unfortunately too many others to name. I took up the role of Chief Officer in October last year and was very quickly impressed by the professionalism and commitment of our many volunteers. This year in particular they gave up so much of their time, put their lives on the line and worked so hard to not only protect their local communities but travel throughout South Australia and interstate to help others. Thanks must also go to the South Australian community who heeded our warning messages at the beginning of the season and prepared their homes against bushfire threat. Unfortunately too many homes were lost with a total of 179 burned this season, many simply because of the ferocity of the fires. The CFS bitterly regrets those losses and the tragic loss of 3 South Australians during the worst of the Fire Danger Season. The community also listened and acted when we issued warning messages. Those three lives lost to bushfires this year is three too many. However, I am thankful that we were able to provide timely and accurate warnings to the communities impacted so they could make safe decisions for themselves and their families. Thank you also to the communities for supporting us and each other throughout the fires. To see the generosity to our firefighters, especially on Christmas Day brought warmth to the heart. Thank you to all of those who have since had bake sales, fundraisers or simply donated to the CFS Foundation. That money will go towards supporting our volunteers in their time of need. I also want to thank CFS staff and our supporting agencies, SA Metropolitan Fire Services, SA State Emergency Service, Department for Environment and Water, SAPOL and all other organisations who contributed. The ability for those staff to get on with the job and provide results is testament to their abilities. At the moment we are continuing to help South Australians by being embedded in the State Command Centre for Health, managing the COVID-19 pandemic in this State. Only days after the request came through, our teams were at SA Health to support them as they faced a health emergency of unknown scale and duration. We knew anything we could do to support them as the control agency had to be a good thing. Of course the work does not end here. Our volunteers continue to attend structure fires, hazardous material incident, road crashes and to assist other agencies, as their work continues. I thank them for their amazing efforts and urge the community to continue to practice fire safety as we move into the winter months, and be careful on our roads. I dearly hope that more normal times will resume once the Coronavirus crisis has passed but South Australians can be assured that its Firefighters remain ready and available to answer calls for help whatever the challenges we face. Mark Jones, Chief Officer SA Country Fire Service

23.01.2022 Tonight the brigade would like to give a big thank you to Aldinga Beach Community Bank Branch You may or may not know that all of our firefighters are volunteers, which means they often get called away from work to be able to help our community in times of need. Two of our members, Jordan and Dave, who are both employed at Bendigo Bank, received no end of support this fire seaso, being able to respond to many local fires as well as contribute to the Kangaroo Island fire. It can be a tough balance between work and fire service commitments for our volunteers. The support given to these fine gentlemen from their employer is vermy much noticed, and appreciated. Thank you.

23.01.2022 CATASTROPHIC FIRE DANGER - WEDNESDAY 20th NOVEMBER This was the visibility in some parts of Port Lincoln during last weeks Duck Ponds Fire. Why risk not being... prepared? 22.01.2022 Sellicks CFS annual bottle drive is about to start. Thanks for your support.

22.01.2022 The flames may be gone but, we have not. With the "right" conditions tree stumps and roots can potentially burn for weeks after a Bushfire. DEW, Forrestry, SAPOL and CFS Volunteers monitor fires long after a wild fire has been extinguished.... After sending crews to fight the fire emergency, Sellicks Country Fire Service has continued to commit crews this week to "black-out" and monitor the Cherry Gardens fire.

21.01.2022 Good morning Sellicks Beach and surrounds. Due to todays CATASTROPHIC fire danger rating, your volunteer fire fighters have the station manned and are ready to respond in the event of an emergency. If you see any smoke today, call 000 without hesitation. The catastrophic conditions means it is imperative our crews attend to any fire without delay to stop the spread and lessen the impact. ... As our 34P appliance is currently on deployment on Kangaroo Island, we have the loan of Lameroo 34 to cover our community. Thank you to Lameroo. Stay safe and hydrated today.

13.01.2022 STATEWIDE FIRE BANS Please make sure you are complying with the law when it comes to what outdoor cooking appliances youre using. Any cooker that uses solid fu...el such as wood, charcoal or heat beads cannot be used unless you obtain a Permit from your local council. (Note that these permits are generally only issued for emergency purposes and in some cases it may already be too late to apply). A gas or electric barbecue or cooking appliance can be used as long as it is at least 4 metres clear of any flammable material and you have an appropriate fire extinguisher on hand (with a designated adult who is able to control it, if needed). If you need more information, visit https://www.cfs.sa.gov.au//what_can_i_do_what_cant_i_do.jsp

13.01.2022 If you are in self-quarantine or self-isolation due to COVID-19, you can leave your home if you are in an emergency or your home is unsafe. You should try to ge...t back into self-isolation as soon as you safely can. During an emergency, if you need to attend an emergency relief centre or a Bushfire Last Resort Refuge, you need to stay outside, alert emergency services (e.g. SAPOL, relief authorities at the location etc.) and follow instructions. You must also advise emergency services that you have been forced to leave self-quarantine or self-isolation due to the emergency and that: you are a close contact of a known COVID-19 case you have recently tested positive to COVID-19 or if you are experiencing symptoms of COVID-19 or you are in self-quarantine because you have recently returned from interstate. Review your Bushfire Survival Plan and consider adding additional face masks, hand sanitiser, and antibacterial wipes to your ‘Emergency Kit’ to protect yourself and your loved ones from COVID-19. Follow the SA Country Fire Service for emergency warnings and further advice.

12.01.2022 Tonight the Sellicks Brigade would like to give a heart felt thanks and a big shout out to the friendly staff at Sellicks Barber. The team at Sellicks Barbers have been significant supporters of our brigade for many years as well as Julie being involved with the CFS for a very long time (teaching me a thing or two when I was a cadet way back in the mid 90s) Thank you for always being there and putting up with our firefighter talk when you are giving us a snappy hairdo. PS. I did not intend on getting in the photo with Julie, otherwise I would have had a shave - GO GUNNERS!

11.01.2022 Fire Danger Ratings are an indicator of how dangerous a bushfire could be if it did occur. It is not a predictor of how likely a bushfire is to occur. Do you know what the different ratings mean?

10.01.2022 We have been receiving lots of questions about how you can support our brigade as well as many generous donations. The fine people at help our fireies contacted us and asked if there was anything we were going to purchase. This page has been set up for people to donate to with the end goal of pufchasing items for volunteer fire brigades. Thank you. Sellicks CFS.

10.01.2022 Don't be a turkey this Christmas! We dont want to be a scrooge, we just want to remind you of the steps you can take to minimise your risk of starting a fire t...his festive season. With perfect BBQ weather of hot and dry conditions predicted across the state next week, please make sure you are complying with the law when it comes to any outdoor cooking appliances youre using during any Total Fire Bans. Any cooker that uses solid fuel such as wood, charcoal or heat beads cannot be used unless you obtain a Permit from your local council. 10.01.2022 With just 3 day to go until our annual bottle drive we though we would share some examples / suggestions on how to package your donated recycling for us to collect. What we ask is that the recycling is clearly labeled with cfs and placed out the front ready for collection starting 0900 Sunday 3rd January. Please be mindful of this wind if your recycling is mostly plastic. We love a good run but chasing bottles is not one of our strengths. If you are using a large or reusable ...container (like the blue barrel in the example) we will either return this to you or empty the contents into our trailers. If you have one of the old school - black - Willunga council recycling crates we do ask that these are not used as there is potential for confusion with these. Feel free to contact us prior to our run on Sunday to arrange a collection and if you are able to, please also feel welcome to come down to the fire station (Fontaine Drive Sellicks) to drop off recycling on the day. We will have some Covid 19 controls to follow but will be the usual friendly people we always are Thank you and have a great new year. See more

Our Professional Volunteer Fire Fighters will be hitting the streets collecting your kindly donated deposit recycling from 0900. We will sti...ll be out with our trailers, in CFS uniform, but might take a bit longer than past years as we will have physically less people. Thank you for your continued support. See more

Where fire ban districts have a forecast fire danger rating of Severe, well prepared and actively defended houses can offer safety during a fire. 01.01.2022 We are just shy of eight weeks into fire season, and already our volunteers have put in an enormous effort. What have we been up to, you may ask? We have sent multiple crews to assist in New South Wales on five day deployments, deployed our 34P Appliance and crew to Kangaroo Island, sent crews to the Yorketown fire for an 18 hour shift, attended the large grass and scrub fire at Wattle Flat over two days, sent crews to the Cudlee Creek fire, two days of all-day active standby... during catastrophic conditions, the fire in the Button Road Wetlands on Friday night, as well as several smaller fires around the area over the weekend. We are aware of illegal fireworks being used in Sellicks and Aldinga Beach during the last few days. We would like to reiterate that this is totally unacceptable. Illegal fireworks can cause fires - if you have them in your possession, please consider the general public safety, the environment, and our firies before setting them off this New Years Eve. If you see them being used tonight, please call SAPOL. Despite the busy start to the season, our volunteers still have a smile on their face, and they are ready to help in the event of an emergency. From everyone at Sellicks CFS, we hope you all have a safe and happy new year.
