23.01.2022 "When you go home, tell them of us and say, for their tomorrow we gave our today." John Maxwell Edmonds On 11 November 1918, at the eleventh hour, the guns of the Western Front fell silent. ... Today we remember those whose lives were given to secure peace and freedom for our country. We pause to reflect on the sorrow of the families that lost their sons and daughters in battle. Lest We Forget. Legacy South Australia & Broken Hill Remembrance Walk

22.01.2022 This morning I joined my State colleague Nicola Centofanti MLC at Legacy South Australia & Broken Hill's Remembrance Walk. As a veteran myself and as a Legatee of Legacy, I always take time to reflect on the sorrow of the families that lost their sons and daughters, as well as those who care for their loved ones still carrying the scars of their service. It was wonderful to see so many community members join the walk to support the important work of Legacy.... Lest We Forget.

22.01.2022 It was an honour to represent the Minister for Veterans’ Affairs and Defence Personnel Darren Chester MP at the rededication of the Avenue of Honour in Mount Barker today. This Avenue of Honour will ensure that future generations have a place to reflect on the sacrifice of our youth in war. I commend the Mt Barker RSL Sub-Branch for all the important work they do in the community to commemorate and honour our veterans.

19.01.2022 This morning I spoke with David Penberthy and Will Goodings on FIVEaa regarding the vandalism at the War Memorial on North Terrace. As a veteran, I am extremely saddened that someone would grossly disrespect our war dead and their families this way. : FIVEaa

18.01.2022 As a volunteer for Disaster Relief Australia (DRA) and a veteran, I have seen firsthand the benefits of bringing together the skills of emergency services personnel and veterans to assist communities in need after a disaster has struck. Therefore, it was a very special honour for me to present three DRA volunteers with their National Emergency Medal which were awarded for their service in response to Tropical Cyclone Debbie in 2017 and the North Queensland floods in 2019. ...Congratulations to Anastasia Bougesis, Chantelle Bradford and Markus Bucy who received this handsome medal. Thank you to all the amazing DRA volunteers for their inspiring work to assist their fellow citizens in need.

05.01.2022 Nothing is sacred anymore.

05.01.2022 Each year in the lead up to Remembrance Day, South Australian school children and veterans place crosses on the lawns near the National War Memorial, building the RSL's 'Field of Remembrance'. Yesterday, this display of community remembrance for those who paid the ultimate sacrifice was vandalised. Some of the crosses planted in the field were even stolen. Tonight I informed the Senate of this pitiful act that has been especially distressing for those of us who have spent t...ime in uniform serving our Nation. I also took the opportunity to pay a personal tribute to those who fell in battle for our freedoms, as well as the families that had to cope with the inconsolable loss of losing their sons and daughters. You can watch my speech below.

04.01.2022 This year alone, South Australians have shown they can overcome the difficulties caused by COVID-19. The coming six days will be no exception. My thoughts are with all of you that will not be able to see your loved ones, celebrate happy occasions or farewell those that have left us. ... This is the time when we all need to do that little bit extra to look out for each other. 02.01.2022 A fascinating morning hearing from The Nature Conservancy Australia alongside the Minister for Environment Sussan Ley MP about their important work rebuilding local shellfish reefs using oyster and mussel shells. What a picturesque backdrop for learning! The Morrison Government has committed $20 million to the Reef Builder Shellfish Restoration Program which will support sites in 11 coastal communities across the country. South Australia is a great beneficiary of this funding, with reef projects planned for Onkaparinga, Kangaroo Island and Glenelg. Thank you to the City of Onkaparinga and its Mayor Erin Thompson - Mayor, City of Onkaparinga for their advocacy. A very special thank you to the project co-ordinator Anita Nedosyko for your great dedication to this initiative and for showing us some baby oysters.
