22.01.2022 Thank you to today’s co-chairs Japanese Minister for Foreign Affairs, Toshimitsu Motegi and Tuvalu’s Foreign Minister Simon Kofe for a very productive #PALM meeting between the Pacific Islands Forum and Japan. Although we are separated in 2020 by COVID19 travel restrictions, Foreign Ministers along with Prime Ministers, Premiers and Presidents came together virtually for the fourth PALM Ministerial discussion. Japan is a major development, infrastructure and security partner ...in the Pacific and a key Indo-Pacific partner for Australia. We welcome Japan’s continued strong engagement in our #BluePacific and look forward to working even more closely with Japan in support of our regional response to COVID-19, connectivity and sustainable development. * * * * * Pacific Islands Forum Australian Government Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade Australian Embassy in Japan Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan Embassy of Japan in Australia Fijian Government Federated States of Micronesia Tuvalu French Polynesia Australian High Commission, Kiribati Kiribati Nauru New Zealand Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade New Caledonia Niue Koror State Government Office of the President, Republic of Palau PNG Office of the Prime Minister Australian High Commission Papua New Guinea Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade- Republic of the Marshall Islands Government of Samoa Tonga Gov Portal SIG News Service Solomon Islands, Ministry of Fisheries and Marine Resources Tuvalu Australian High Commission Tuvalu. 20.01.2022 For many years now, Penrith has turned pink in the month of October to support the important work of the McGrath Foundation The whole community gets behind this initiative. To cap things off this year, Paddle Australia and Fox&Co have joined up to turn our iconic Nepean River pink, with local canoeists out in force on the water.... I’m so proud to call this part of Western Sydney home and to see our community rally behind those dealing with breast cancer. A special thank you to Penrith CBD Corporation, Penrith RSL and the Pink Up Penrith team.
18.01.2022 Green shoots of environmental recovery are springing across the Blue Mountains and Hawkesbury. The Morrison Government has delivered a further $1.1m for targeted, expert-led recovery programs which will help repair habitat, repopulate threatened species and ensure long-term resilience. Under the Regional Delivery Program, planning by locals is already underway for further recovery actions, backed in with more than $100m in government funding.... We’re all in this together and our government will continue to work with affected communities on the ground to deliver positive outcomes.

14.01.2022 Having a flexible, nimble development program and strong, trusting partnerships in the Pacific and Southeast Asia mean Australia has been able to pivot nearly one quarter of our development efforts in a matter of months to respond effectively to #COVID19 in our region. Today we launch our #COVID19 Development Response Plans, which serve as blueprints for the delivery for our development support and our shared priorities for action. We know #COVID19 is putting pressure on comm...unities, economies and livelihoods. By working together, we will recover and thrive as one region. 13.01.2022 Dame Margaret Guilfoyle AC DBE was a trailblazer of Australian politics. She was the first woman to hold a cabinet-level ministerial portfolio and served as a minister for the duration of the Fraser Government. Dame Margaret enjoyed a long and successful political career, and in doing so, laid the foundations for women to follow in her footsteps, myself included.... It was an honour to meet her over the years and to hear her perspectives on politics. I am profoundly grateful for the legacy she leaves behind and convey my deep sympathy to her family. Vale Dame Margaret. Media statement: https://www.pm.gov.au/me/hon-dame-margaret-guilfoyle-ac-dbe

07.01.2022 Minister for Overseas France, Sébastien Lecornu is currently in New Caledonia, a good chance for us both to catch up, whilst in our respective quarantine this week. We discussed the Australia-France relationship, our work together in the #BluePacific and responding to the health and economic impacts of COVID-19. 06.01.2022 Today, I joined the Prime Minister Scott Morrison (ScoMo) at Our Watch’s virtual #IDEVAW event with the Parliamentary Friendship Group, marking International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women. Australia joins our partners around the world to support UN Women’s commitment to stop all forms of violence against women and girls. Addressing gender-based violence is a pillar of Australia’s COVID-19 response #PartnershipsForRecovery. Gender equality and the empowerme...nt of women and girls is one of our core development priorities. Domestic and family violence have increased during the pandemic, for both Australia and our neighbours in the Indo-pacific. We are working hard against this trend, mindful that our region has some of the highest rates of intimate partner violence in the world. I was honoured to participate in another virtual event today as Fiji launched consultations for the development of its own National Action Plan to Prevent Violence Against Women and Girls. I commend Prime Minister Frank Bainimarama and Minister Vuniwaqa for bringing this complex and difficult subject into the open. Now, more than ever, coming together to end violence against women and girls is key to creating a more gender-equal and inclusive world. 03.01.2022 On United Nations Day, Australia reaffirms our ongoing commitment to the during these challenging times. COVID19 has reminded us of the importance of international cooperation and working together to build back better. It is important and in Australia’s national interests for us to be engaged in human rights discussions across the UN General Assembly and its Committees. Human rights and gender equality are important pre-requisites for security, stability and prosperity in ...the Indo-Pacific region. During COVID-19, discussions I have led as Foreign Minister and Minister for Women, including with Pacific Women Leaders, have recognised that meaningful participation of women in responses to the crisis will be important to our longer-term economic recovery.
