05.01.2022 Did you know? There are More Than 3,500 Different Grades of Steel Most people not in the manufacturing industry might be surprised to hear this, but there are thousands of different kinds of steel alloys and grades out there. While the exact count is uncertain, organisations such as the World Steel Association state that there are more than 3,500 different grades of steel and that approximately 75% of modern steels have been developed in the past 20 years. As materials research and science improve its likely that there will be many more steel alloys hitting the market in the future which will be lighter and stronger than ever before.

01.01.2022 Project: Apec Haus Location: Port Moresby Papua New Guinea Client: CPB Contractors Total Tonnage of Structural Steel: 501 Tonnes Job Duration: July 2017 October 2017... Man Hours: 12,000 The Apec Haus Project was a benchmark project for Papua New Guinea to hold the Apec Summit in November 2018. The project was milestone driven given the importance of ensuring the opening was completed on time and in budget. The project consisted of 1452 individual items fabricated at Sencova Steel Fabricators Workshop at Murarrie. The items were fabricated from a wide range of material sections, ranging from 610mm diameter pipe columns, 500 WC columns and 200 SHS columns, 700 Welded beam rafters that required to be curved individually, all completed in-house at Sencova Steel fabricators. A mixture of protective coating was required with a split of 308.5t of galvanized steel and 192.5t of painted steel in a 3-coat paint system. Packing of the items to ensure minimal damage to coatings for the long sea voyage was a contractual requirement, with Sencova Steel Fabricators taking care and pride in their work to ensure this was achieved to the satisfaction of the client. Transport for the project was via break bulk and an open soft top shipping container. Full QA documentation traceability was required for the project for materials, welding procedures and welder qualifications, painting and galvanizing. All compiled in house by our qualified staff and submitted in an MDR. A successful project and a satisfied client after all milestone were achieved throughout the project which was a great result for Sencova Steel Fabricators.
